Abstract: An apparatus for delivering a flow of breathable gas to a patient for the treatment of Sleep Disordered Breathing (SDB) that is less obtrusive includes a nasal cannula, cannulae (2a, 2b), prongs, or pillows and may be sealed or unsealed with the nares of the patient in use. The cannula, pillows or prongs may be positioned on the face of the patient by a headgear (6). The cannula, pillows or prongs may be smaller, lighter, and/or less visible than other nasal cannula, cannulae, pillows or prongs and may therefore be less obtrusive to the patient.

Abstract: A mask assembly for use in providing a supply of air at positive pressure to the airways of a patient includes a frame and an elbow. The elbow is rotatable with respect to the frame when assembled. The frame includes an elbow-receiving portion. The elbow and elbow-receiving portion of the frame are adapted to include respective interlocking sealing portions and one of the elbow and elbow-receiving portion includes a flexible element that upon assembly flexes to introduce a preload that effects a seal between the respective interlocking sealing portions.

Abstract: A patient interface system for delivering a flow of breathable gas to a patient includes a patient interface structure configured to sealingly engage the patient's nares; a pair of strips configured to be connected to opposite sides of the patient interface structure; and adhesive configured to secure the patient interface structure in sealing engagement with the patient's nares. The adhesive may be provided on the strips, and the strips are configured to be adhered to sides of the patient's nose by the adhesive. Another patient interface system includes a first component including adhesive on a first side and hook or loop fastener material on a second side, wherein the adhesive is configured to adhere the component to the face of the patient; and a patient interface structure configured to sealingly engage the patient's airways.

Abstract: A battery receptacle for use with a medical device, said receptacle comprising at least one cavity accessed via a respective door, said cavity adapted to slidably receive at least one non-cylindrical battery to engage with electrical contacts in a single predetermined orientation, said receptacle and said battery each being provided with complementary slidable engagement means that must be engaged with each other when inserting said battery into said cavity, thereby only allowing said battery to engage said contacts in said single predetermined configuration, and wherein said receptacle further comprising at least one portion that allows said battery to be visible when said battery is inserted in said cavity and said door is closed.

Abstract: A retractable tube for use in a respiratory apparatus for delivering a pressurized flow of breathable gas to a patient has an internal diameter of about 30 mm or less, a weight of about 500 g/m or less, and an unextended length of about 2 m or less. The retractable tube includes a portion that is extensible in a range of about 40%-400% in response to force applied to the tube, and the extensible portion is configured to return the tube to its unextended length in the absence of force applied to the tube. A respiratory apparatus for delivering a flow of pressurized breathable gas includes a flow generator to generate the flow and a patient interface to deliver the flow to the patient's airways. The flow generator and the patient interface are connected by a retractable tube. A method of delivering a flow of pressurized breathable gas includes connecting the flow generator and the patient interface using a retractable tube.
