  • Patent number: 9763965
Abstract: The present invention relates to aggregate particles comprising nanoparticulate drug particles. In particular, the present invention is directed to aggregate particles comprising nanoparticulate drug particles of umeclidinium bromide and optionally vilanterol trifenatate and/or fluticasone furoate. Aggregate particles of the present invention may further comprise nanoparticulate excipient particles and one or more binders. The invention also relates to powder compositions suitable for inhalation that comprise said aggregate particles, processes of producing said aggregate particles, and use of said powder compositions in the treatment of respiratory diseases, such as asthma and COPD.

  • Publication number: 20040151059
Abstract: A deagglomerator apparatus and method are provided for deagglomerating material such as micron-sized, dry medicament powder (M). The deagglomerator apparatus includes a horn member (HM) having a tip portion (TP, TP1) wherein the tip portion defines a recess (R1) for holding the material. A vibrator mechanism is attached to the horn member and is operable for utilizing power from a generator (G) for vibrating the horn member, tip portion and recess wherein the recess vibrates at a frequency suitable for deagglomeration of agglomerated material held by within the recess. In a preferred embodiment, the material is held by a substrate which can be positioned at least partially into the recess. The deagglomerator apparatus and method can be used for deagglomerating material such that it includes particles of a respirable size, preferably less than approximately ten (10) microns (when referenced to unit density of 1 gram/cm3).

  • Publication number: 20030005927
Abstract: A pressurized metered dose inhaler comprising a canister, said canister containing a liquid formulation comprising a pressurized liquid propellant and spherical hollow medicament particles of respirable size suspended therein. In preferred embodiments, the density of the particles is equivalent to that of the liquid propellant, such that uniform suspension formulation is formed.

  • Publication number: 20010018916
Abstract: A process for dispersing medicament from an inhalator device which contains medicament particles. The process involves (i) providing an inhalator which contains at least one dose of medicament particles comprising spherical hollow particulates of respirable particle size suitable for deposition in a human being's lungs, and (ii) removing the spherical hollow particulates from the inhalator.

  • Patent number: 6245339
Abstract: A medicament carrier (10) having a first and a second spaced apart screen (12, 14) each of which has surfaces (12B, 14B) defining a plurality of interstices (12A, 14A). The carrier (10) contains powdered agglomerated medicament particles (SM) loaded onto the first screen surface (12B) such that the interstices (12A) of the first screen (12) are at least partially open and free of the agglomerated medicament particles (SM). When an air stream is provided to the carrier to entrain the agglomerated powdered medicament particles (SM) and move them from the first screen (12) through the interstices (14A) of the second screen (14), the agglomerated powdered medicament particles (SM) are sheared by air flow gradients created by the first and second screens (12, 14) and by contact with the surface (14B) of the second screen (14) to create particles of respirable particle size range. The carrier (10) can be used in a dry powder inhalator device.

  • Patent number: 6076522
Abstract: An apparatus (100) adapted for applying to a carrier (C) a suspension (S) comprising a suspending agent and a powdered medicament. The apparatus (110) includes a reservoir (110), a junction container (120) adapted to contain a liquid, an outlet line (130) extending from the reservoir (110) and through the junction container (120) to a pump (P), a nozzle (160) connected to the pump (P) and a sonicator (150) operatively connected to the junction container (120). The reservoir (110) is adapted to maintain the agent and the medicament admixed in suspension. The nozzle (160) is formed from an inner cylinder (161) disposed within an outer cylinder (162), thereby defining a space (X) therebetween, and includes a purge line (165) fluidly connected with the outer cylinder (162) for providing a gas jet to the space (X).
