  • Patent number: 6551687
Abstract: The wrapping film of the present invention has a sticky surface, convexities, and flat portions of film disposed between the convexities on at least one side, and comprises at least one agent selected from the group consisting of a surface active agent, an adhesive agent, and an oily agent. The wrapping film has a shear adhesion strength of at most 400 cN/25 cm2 when measured subsequent to bringing said sticky surface into contact with a glass surface having a surface roughness of from 0.7 to 1.5 nm under a pressure of 4 Pa, a shear adhesion strength of at least 700 cN/25 cm2 when measured subsequent to bringing said sticky surface into contact with said glass surface under a pressure of 4 kPa, and the ratio of the height of the convexities to the thickness of the flat portion ranges from 0.03 to 1.67. The wrapping film may also have a surface with a roughness and waviness (Ra′) of at least 40 nm as measured in a non-extended state, and an elongation at break of at least 10%.

  • Patent number: 5560977
Abstract: An object of the present invention is to offer a magnetic recording medium comprising a substrate and a magnetic film formed on the substrate, wherein the substrate is formed using a conductive material and a surface of said substrate is processed by electroetching. As this magnetic recording medium has excellent surface characteristics, excellent durability and small spacing loss, its recording and play back characteristics are excellent.

  • Patent number: 5162962
Abstract: This invention relates to a magnetic recording apparatus which includes a magnetic head and device for moving a magnetic recording medium with respect to the magnetic head and makes recording to and reproduction from the magnetic recording medium, comprising a sliding member which comes into sliding contact with a magnetic recording medium made of a composite material containing glass-like carbon and at least one inorganic compound selected from the group consisting of metal oxides, metal nitrides, metal carbides and metal borides so that the sliding characteristics with respect to the medium can be improved and the recording/reproduction characteristics can be kept stable for a long period of time without damaging the medium due to reduced frictional resistance.

  • Patent number: 4958998
Abstract: The present invention provides a glasslike carbon composite material which has reduced surface friction and excellent wear resistance and durability, because of the addition of specific ultrafine ceramic particles as a reinforcing material to a main component of glasslike carbon. The present invention further provides a method for preparing such a glasslike carbon composite material, as well as a method for preparing a glasslike carbon material.

  • Patent number: 4716078
Abstract: A substrate for magnetic discs, which are to be used as external storage in data processors, is formed from glass-like carbon materials by themselves or contained in a thermosetting resin matrix. The glass-like carbon materials have excellent thermal resistance, can be finished to a mirror-like surface, and have less surface defects than aluminum substrates. Magnetic materials can be adhered directly onto the surface of such substrates shaped in the form of a disc. The resulting disc has good hardness, is resistant to elevated temperatures, is less likely to deform, and is low in cost.

  • Patent number: 4644431
Abstract: A magnetic head for recording and reading out of a magnetic recording medium in a perpendicular magnetic recording system is described in which the surface which is close to or in contact with the recording medium are covered with a film of a glasslike carbon material. This film improves the lubrication properties with respect to the adjacent recording medium and serves to prevent abrasion.
