  • Patent number: 4763448
Abstract: A centerless grinding machine comprising a grinding wheel on a rotational sleeve supported by a hydrostatic bearing means on a stationary spindle fixed to a grinding wheel table, a regulating wheel supported by a hydrostatic bearing on a spindle fixed to a regulating wheel table, and a blade for supporting a workpiece. Both wheel tables supporting the corresponding wheel are guided along a hydrodynamic sliding guide way to which a uniform pre-load is applied by hydrostatic bearings, and a servo mechanism is provided to compensate for frictional forces generated on the feed guide way, whereby it is possible to accomplish fine positioning of the corresponding wheel table and to grind the outer periphery of the workpiece with high precision and efficiency.

  • Patent number: 4528074
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of producing a grinding wheel by electroplating. A part of the outer peripheral portion of a grinding wheel body is immersed in a plating solution. While rotating the grinding wheel body at a low speed, electric current is supplied to flow between an anode disposed in the plating solution and a cathode contacting the grinding wheel body, so that a pre-plating layer of uniform thickness is formed on the outer peripheral surface of the grinding wheel body. Plating operation is continued while adhering abrasive grains to the pre-plating layer to further cause a precipitation of a plating layer to temporarily fix the abrasive grains. The abrasive grains are then pressed by a pressing roller so as to be forcibly embedded into the pre-plating layer by making an effective use of plastic deformation of the pre-plating layer, thereby to obtain a uniform projection height of the abrasive grains from the surface of the grinding wheel.

  • Patent number: 4275527
Abstract: A centerless grinding machine which comprises a grinding wheel, a regulating wheel, a blade and an inprocess gaging device and in which said gaging device includes a pair of feelers each having a contact adapted to contact each one of the wheels and the blade is provided with a rectangular opening or slot having dimensions sufficient to freely receive the contacts so that interference between the wheels, blade workpieces and contacts is prevented. One of said feelers contacts the periphery of said grinding wheel in a peripheral position below by the distance of center height of the workpiece and the other feeler contacts the periphery of said regulating wheel in a position below the position where the first-mentioned feeler contacts the periphery of the grinding wheel.
