  • Patent number: 4848616
Abstract: An electric immersion heating unit for use in conjunction with a metallic water heater tank provided with a sacrificial anode has the legs of a U-shaped metallic sheathed heating element extending in electrically insulated relationship through a metallic plug adapted to operatively secure the heating unit in a tank opening. A cylindrical galvanic current flow controlling resistor is positioned in a slot between a disc shaped insulator on the outer face of the head and a terminal block receiving the ends of the heating element legs. A C-shaped metallic retaining clip in a groove about the perimeter of the terminal block maintains one end of the resistor in electrical contact with the metallic heating element sheath and establishes electrical contact between the other end of the resistor and the outer face of the head to provide a circuit of fixed resistance between the heating element sheath and the tank wall.

  • Patent number: 4306189
Abstract: An anode depletion detector includes a current carrying probe member which projects into a water heater tank. The probe is normally connected with electric energy storage means which is charged during contact with the probe. To test the level of anode protection, electric energy from the storage means is discharged through a detector. Alternative embodiments for circuits which permit storage and discharge of electrical energy are shown.

  • Patent number: 4165963
Abstract: An improved burner assembly for a water heater includes a gas supply tube with a uniquely constructed end portion for mounting the burner support bracket and burner. The end portion is partially flattened on its top surface and includes an attached gas discharge orifice. The burner supply bracket is attached directly to the end portion or is otherwise supported on the end portion so that gas passing through the discharge orifice appropriately mixes with air for combustion by the burner supported by the bracket.

  • Patent number: 4136001
Abstract: Non-sacrificial anode for use in a hot water heater has a single elongated electrically conductive wire extending within the interior of the water heater tank. Anode distribution points made of platinum coated tantalum are attached to the conductive wire at pre-selected locations. A catalyst of the type which permits hydrogen gas and oxygen gas at standard temperatures and pressures to form water molecules is suspended from the tank's interior.
