    Abstract: A mode selector mechanism for use in a cassette tape recorder includes a mode selector lever, a cam gear, an operating mechanism, a motor, a selecting mechanism, and a tape transport assembly. The tape transport assembly transports the cassette tape in a selected one of at least three operating modes including a forward playback mode, a fast-forward mode, and a rewinding mode. The cam gear moves the mode selector lever in a direction to a position corresponding to the selected operating mode where the mode selector lever is stopped. The operating mechanism is angularly movable in response to movement of the mode selector lever, for switching between different force transmitting paths of the tape transport assembly depending on the selected operating mode, and preventing the mode selector lever from moving in directions perpendicular to the direction in which the mode selector lever moves.
