  • Patent number: 6272248
Abstract: An original image comprises a printed region on which a predetermined printed matter is realized and a background region on which no printed matter is realized. The shape of a peripheral zone in the original image comprises the shape of the background region, which shape exists particularly at the peripheral region of said original image. It is determined whether or not the original image comprises the special document by detecting the peripheral zone. Further, the original image has an outer-frame region, having a predetermined shape at the peripheral region of the original image. The determination is carried out using a result of measuring the width of the outer-frame region. Further, the width of the outer-frame region comprises a width along a direction substantially perpendicular to a direction extending along the outline of the original image.

  • Patent number: 5920645
Abstract: A color image forming apparatus and method which optically reads an original image of a document and obtains color image signals representing the document. A color characteristic of the original image is discriminated during a first scanning operation to determine the characteristics of the document including detecting regions of the document which are color, black and white, made of a photograph, or text. The parameters of an under color removal are set based on the detected characteristics of the document. A second scanning operation is performed and the under color removal process is performed based on the previously set parameters. The under color removal process is a process in which the intensity of the color signals is reduced. The black component of the image is generated based on the amount by which the intensity (or density) of the color image signals are reduced. The processed image is then printed.

  • Patent number: 5515171
Abstract: A remote-controlled copying apparatus includes a main copying part, a storage unit for storing image signals from the main copying part, a facsimile part connected to a first telephone line for receiving image signals from an external facsimile unit and for transmitting the image signals of the storage unit to an external facsimile unit, a facsimile control part connected to a second telephone line for receiving a first tone signal from an external telephone unit after a ringing signal is received from the external telephone unit, and for repeatedly transmitting a set of control signals to the external telephone unit in response to the first tone signal, a first conversion part for converting a tone signal into a control signal so that the control signal is transmitted to the external telephone unit, a second conversion part for converting a control signal into a tone signal, and a control part for carrying out a remote control operation of the copying apparatus by controlling the facsimile control part in ac

  • Patent number: 5500746
Abstract: A color image input apparatus or scanner which has three color input devices which input three color images and then convert color image optical signals to analog electric signals. Three analog/digital convertors convert the analog signals to digital signals and three shading correction devices execute shading correction for the signals. Line correction devices execute line delays for the signals and then correct color difference of the three colors in the sub-scanning direction. There are three color dot or pixel correction devices which shift the position of each dot of each color within .+-.1 dot in the main scanning direction; that is each position of re-sampling or correction in the main scanning direction determines data values or correction information from correction coefficients of each position of the re-sampling. Three color output devices which output three color images. The color image apparatus can correct the color image difference in the main scanning direction.

  • Patent number: 5465160
Abstract: A composite image forming apparatus includes a scanning part for obtaining image data for each dot by scanning a document in a main scanning direction and scanning the same in a sub scanning direction, a character generating part for generating character data indicating either a character or a numeric character, an image composition part for obtaining composite image data by combining the character data with the image data of the scanned document, an image forming part for carrying out an image forming process based on the composite image data so that a composite image is formed for each copy of the document, and a character setting control part for changing the respective character data each time a composite image is formed to make a copy of the document when an image forming process is repeatedly carried out with respect to the same document to make a plurality of copies.

  • Patent number: 5444518
Abstract: An image forming apparatus including an image reading unit for reading an original and for outputting image data corresponding to the original, an image processing unit for processing the image data supplied from the image reading unit in accordance with a predetermined method and for outputting printing image data, a printer unit for printing an image corresponding to the printing image data supplied from the image processing unit, and an image adding unit for adding an identification information to the recording sheet on which the image is formed by the printer unit, the identification information identifying the image forming apparatus in order to prevent forgery of securities, confidential documents or backnotes. A detector detects the presence or absence of the image adding unit and disables the copying functions when the image adding unit is absent.

  • Patent number: 5333211
Abstract: An image processing apparatus for image compression and decompression includes a smoothing part for smoothing image data of a reconstructed image by using a smoothing filter selected from among a plurality of smoothing filters having different smoothing effects, an averaging part for producing a set of values of averages of coefficients produced through discrete cosine transformation with respect to a plurality of blocks in the reconstructed image so that a distribution of the averages of the coefficients for a target block is generated, and a selection part for generating a signal to enable the smoothing part to select the smoothing filter by detecting whether or not peak values in the distribution of the averages of the coefficients, generated by the averaging part, appear substantially on a diagonal line of the target block passing a lowest-order position through a highest-order position of the target block.
