The resin layer is formed above the transparent substrate including the black matrix and the transparent electroconductive film, forms a convex part above the black matrix, and forms, in a region that passes through a center of each of the openings in the black matrix, a concave part.

    Abstract: A counter substrate for liquid crystal display includes a transparent substrate, a black matrix, and stripe transparent electrodes. The black matrix divides a plane surface of the transparent substrate into pixel or sub-pixel unit to form a light-shielded area and openings above the plane surface. The stripe transparent electrodes are formed into the pixel unit or the sub-pixel unit above the plane surface. The black matrix includes a frame pattern including two sides facing each other in parallel in the pixel or the sub-pixel unit, and a linear central pattern which is parallel to the two sides of the frame pattern and is formed at a midsection of the pixel or the sub-pixel unit. The transparent electrodes are each parallel to the two sides of the frame pattern and the central pattern and are located symmetrically to the central pattern.

    Abstract: The invention minimizes a disclination of a transflective type liquid crystal display device. The device includes a transparent substrate, a black matrix dividing rectangular pixels, a transparent electroconductive film, a resin layer having a concave region at an each pixel center, and a cell gap adjusting layer formed partially above the resin layer and forming convex regions above the black matrix. The pixels are formed symmetrically to a center and have a transmission region and a reflection region in an order that from a position near the center. In the transmission region, the resin layer is laminated above the transparent electroconductive film. In the reflection region, the resin layer and the cell gap adjusting layer are laminated above the transparent electroconductive film.

The alignment sustaining layer is formed above a surface of the array substrate being in contact with the liquid crystal layer and gives liquid crystals a pre-tilt to a direction in which the second electrode protrudes from the first electrode, in a direction in which the comb teeth are arranged.

The blue filter segment has a maximum transmittance wavelength of 455 nm or less and a transmittance of 55% or more at a wavelength of 450 nm. A thickness of each of the red, green and blue filter segments is 3.0 ?m or less. A liquid crystal display device including this color filter and the white LED is also disclosed.
