  • Patent number: 11756201
Abstract: A method and system for performing characterization of one or more materials. One or more materials are scanned by means of a sensory system including an X-ray sensor configured to perform multi-energy imaging for obtaining at least a lower-energy X-ray image and a higher-energy X-ray image. Images obtained by means of the sensory system are segmented, and for each segmented object, data indicative of an area density and data indicative of an atom number by analysis of the lower-energy X-ray image and the higher-energy X-ray image, and data indicative of the area density and atom number is determined by means of a calibrated model. Data indicative of a mass is calculated based on the data indicative of the area density and the data indicative of the area of each of the segmented objects.

  • Publication number: 20200216928
Abstract: A method of making a composite compact or briquette may include mixing a first particulate material with at most 15% by weight of a powder coating material to obtain a mixture, and compacting the mixture into a compact. Either the first particulate material, the powder coating material, or both are advantageously waste materials. The first particulate material has a metal content of at least 50% by weight. The compact can be cured at temperatures between 50° C. and 300° C. to obtain the composite briquette. The composite briquette may include a binding phase formed of the cured waste powder coating material, and a dispersed phase formed of the first particulate. The composite briquettes can be used as a secondary ore material.

  • Patent number: 9663362
Abstract: The present invention relates to method for recycling alkaline waste water from a stainless steel slag treatment process wherein stainless steel slag is brought into contact with water thereby producing said waste water, which waste water contains heavy metals, including at least chromium, and has a pH of at least 12. The waste water is recycled by using it for treating an alkaline granular carbonatable material, which contains aluminum metal, in order to oxidize the aluminum metal contained therein. This material is in particular municipal waste incinerator bottom ash which can, after the treatment of the present invention, safely be used as fine or coarse aggregate in bonded applications such as concrete, mortar and asphalt. During the treatment with the alkaline waste water, hydrogen gas is produced which is captured and used to produce energy by means of a cogeneration device.

  • Publication number: 20140284835
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for producing a bonded article by press-moulding and carbonating a granular, carbonatable material. The granular material is applied in a mould, is press-moulded therein under a compaction pressure of at least 25 MPa, and is carbonated during said press-moulding step by means of a gas which contains at least 1 vol. % of carbon dioxide. By carbonating the material when press-moulding it, high compressive strengths can be achieved in a short period of time.

  • Patent number: 8709151
Abstract: A method of producing a mainly carbonate bonded article includes a step of providing an alkaline granular material having one or more alkaline earth metal silicate phases. The method includes a step of compacting the granular material to obtain a compact of the granular material. The porosity of the compact is smaller than or equal to 37% by volume. The intrinsic permeability of the compact is at least 1·10?12 cm2. The method also includes a reacting step arranged to form at least 5% by weight of carbonates (CO32?), by reacting the granular material with carbon dioxide in the presence of water, thus transforming the compact into the article. In the reacting step, the compact, being unsaturated with moisture at the beginning of the reacting step, is brought in an atmosphere having carbon dioxide. The atmosphere is at a temperature of at least 70° C. and at a pressure of at least 0.5 MPa. The pressure is also higher than the saturated vapor pressure of water at the temperature.
