  • Patent number: 8568179
Abstract: The invention relates to a multidirectional propulsion system for ships, including a mechanical hypocycloid transformer, which comprises a drive system (100) of the mechanical hypocycloid transformer type and which performs two basic functions, namely: generating the oscillating rotational movements of the two concentric shafts (15, 16) in order to move the propeller blades, and rotating integrally about the geometric axis thereof, such that the range of the sweep angle of the swing frames (17, 17?) can be varied gradually between an upper threshold and a lower threshold both when the propulsion system is in operation and stopped. The invention also includes a multidirectional connection system which can change the orientation of the propulsion force of the blades and, consequently, the direction of movement of the ship and which comprises a clutch on each concentric shaft each clutch having two discs. The invention further includes a submerged part, formed by a fish-tail propulsion.
