  • Patent number: 8787575
Abstract: A system for propagating encryption key information between wireless communication devices without the requirement of pairing each and every device. A wireless communication device may be paired with at least one device in a group of devices. When a secure link is established between these devices, a determination may be made as to whether encryption key information should be passed from one device to another. The additional encryption key information may allow a wireless communication device to create a secure link with other devices without having to first establish a trusted relationship (e.g., go through a pairing process) with the other devices.

  • Publication number: 20120196534
Abstract: Method, apparatus, and computer program product example embodiments establish a broadcast operating mode on a Bluetooth Low Energy data channel by creating operating parameters for a data channel broadcast connection. Then data channel broadcast connection parameters are transmitted to other devices indicating the data channel broadcast connection and the operating parameters associated with the data channel broadcast connection are transmitted on a Bluetooth Low Energy advertising channel. Then information on the Bluetooth Low Energy data channel broadcast connection to the other devices, according to the operating parameters associated with the data channel broadcast connection. The bit rate of the Bluetooth Low Energy data channel used for broadcasting is not constrained by the required limits placed on the bit rate in the Bluetooth Low Energy advertising channels.

  • Publication number: 20120052802
Abstract: Method, apparatus, and computer program product enable devices to advertise an existing connection to other devices so that they can synchronize to the connection and listen to the information exchanged, in a listen-only mode. In example embodiments, after a slave device has joined a piconet by completing a connection with a master device using for example the Bluetooth Low Energy protocol, the slave device possesses all of the information needed to advertise the existing connection to other devices so that they can synchronize to the connection and listen to the information exchanged, in a listen-only mode. The slave device may assume the role of an advertiser of the existing connection and may begin transmitting an advertising channel packet/PDU to inform third party devices about the existing connection.

  • Publication number: 20120042098
Abstract: Various methods for implementing address privacy in communications networks are provided. One method may include receiving a lower layer address block. The lower layer address block may include a random component and a lower layer solution component. The random component may include a random value and the lower layer solution component may be based at least in part on the random value and a shared key. The method may also include verifying the lower layer address block via the random value and the shared key. The method may further include receiving a higher layer address block. The higher layer address block may include a higher layer solution component. The higher layer solution component may be based at least in part on the random value and a shared key. The method may further include verifying the higher layer address block via the random value and the shared key. Similar apparatuses and computer program products are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20090234728
Abstract: The present invention, in accordance with at least one embodiment, is directed to conveying introductory information between an advertising apparatus (advertiser) and a scanning apparatus (scanner). As part of providing introductory information, an advertiser may inform a scanner of identification information and one or more communication profiles available on the advertiser that are usable for accessing various functionality. Identification and profile information may be provided in the same message or in multiple messages, and may be sent over an established wireless connection between apparatuses or as part of a broadcast message that may be received in the scanner without the need to first negotiate a formal wireless link to the advertiser.

  • Publication number: 20080205309
Abstract: A system for improving communication efficiency in a communication medium. In at least one embodiment of the present invention, communication efficiency in a wireless communication medium may be improved by routing communication packets to destination layers in a wireless protocol stack using a minimal amount of information. Communication packets may be routed by maintaining a set of virtual packet identification indicators for identifying and routing information to an appropriate communication layer, receiving information including a virtual packet identification; and resolving an information type and a communication protocol layer to which the received data should be routed by mapping the virtual packet identification included in the received information with the virtual packet identification indicators.
