  • Patent number: 7050770
Abstract: A linearized amplifier comprising a RF input for receiving a modulated signal and a RF output for supplying a linearly amplified modulated signal. The RF input is connected to a first junction. The linearized amplifier further comprises a linearizer having an input connected to the first junction and a output connected to a second junction. The first junction defines a first path connected to the second junction through the linearizer for linearizing the modulated signal at a first defined range of power and a second path connected to the second junction bypassing the linearizer at a second defined range of power. The linearized amplifier further comprises a amplifier having a input connected to the second junction and a output connected to the RF output for supplying the linearly amplified modulated signal.

  • Publication number: 20030228854
Abstract: A system and method for combining the downlink signals from at least two transceivers to increase the power of the downlink signal. In-phase down link signals from at least two transceivers are combined to produce a downlink output signal having an output power level greater than the power level of any single downlink signal. Detector means, which samples the downlink signals to identify a phase difference is coupled to control a phase controller which adjusts the phase of at least one of the downlink signals to be in step with the phase of the other downlink signal. The phase controller maintains the downlink signals in phase by shifting the phase of at least one of the downlink signals relative to the other.

  • Patent number: 6614299
Abstract: A method and system to balance a signal through a plurality of parallel amplifier elements of an amplifier device. An input signal to the amplifier device is divided substantially equally among a plurality of parallel amplifier elements. A signal through each of the amplifier elements is measured. If any of the measured signals deviates by a predetermined threshold from a reference signal, an adjustment to an input parameter to a tuning circuit associated with the particular amplifier element is determined. The determined adjustment is applied to the particular a tuning circuit to appropriately adjust the output of the deviating amplifier element. The output of the plurality of amplifier elements is combined as the total output of the amplifier device.

  • Patent number: 6351189
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for auto-biasing an amplifier. The auto-bias system of the present invention has an auto-bias feedback loop that adjusts the bias condition of an amplifier to a wanted state between transmission periods. The system monitors a physical quantity indicative of the operating state of the amplifier and controls the amplifier bias so as to control the amplifier operating point sufficiently to compensate for variations in amplifier electrical characteristics, amplifier load, amplifier temperature, and input signals. The system further adjusts the amplifier operating point based on the modulation scheme used to modulate information included in an input signal provided to amplifier, thereby allowing the amplifier to operate in any one of multiple signal modulation systems.
