Abstract: Chapters exhibiting different attributes can be delimited. Among the delimited chapters, chapters exhibiting a designated specific attribute are distinguished. For this purpose, for example, program data is recorded, and chapters exhibiting different attributes are sampled from the recorded program data. An indicator field indicating to which temporal positions in the recorded program data the plurality of sampled chapter data items correspond is displayed. A desired attribute is selected from among the plurality of attributes. When the indicator field is displayed, control is extended so that the indicator field will indicate to which temporal positions in the recorded program data chapter data items, which exhibit the selected attribute, correspond.

Abstract: A method is described for transmitting and receiving electronic mail and a device utilized therefor, which are capable of associating a plurality of data, and transmitting and receiving the associated data via electronic mail. To achieve this object, a filename is attached to a first data and stored on a storage medium, and a filename, at least a portion of which is common to the filename of the first data, is attached to a second data and stored on the storage medium. When instructions for transmitting the first data are inputted, the first data and second data are read from the storage medium, and the first data and second data are transmitted.

A package medium 3 has a URL (Universal Resource Locator) and information for converting a directory structure in the package medium. A terminal has information for managing correspondence between data of a received electronic mail 6 and a URL of the data. The URL is used for designating data. When the designated URL exists in the terminal, data is read from the terminal. When the designated URL exists in the package medium, data is read from the package medium. The read data is mixedly displayed on one screen.
