  • Publication number: 20250011598
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to colloidal dispersions comprising lignin. The colloidal dispersions comprise a first lignin, a second lignin and an aqueous liquid continuous phase. The colloidal dispersion has a dispersion pH. The first lignin is a lignin that in absence of the second lignin would be essentially insoluble in the aqueous continuous phase at the dispersion pH. The second lignin is a lignin that in absence of the first lignin would be soluble in the aqueous continuous phase at the dispersion pH. The colloidal dispersion is a system in which colloidal lignin nanoparticles comprising the first lignin and the second lignin are dispersed in the aqueous liquid continuous phase. The present disclosure further relates to dispersible lignin concentrates obtainable from such dispersions, and lignin-containing products comprising such dispersions and concentrates.

  • Publication number: 20240067823
Abstract: The invention describes a method of forming aqueous lignin-epoxy hybrid nanoparticles with switchable surface characteristics. The invention is applicable to production of technical adhesives and covalent surface modification of lignin nanoparticles under harsh reaction conditions. Further, in terms of the covalent functionalization of lignin nanoparticles (LNPs), this invention presents the covalent cationization of LNPs by means of attached quaternary ammonium groups.

  • Publication number: 20220010077
Abstract: Method of preparing a dispersion of colloidal lignin particles by providing a solution of lignin in a mixture of an organic solvent for lignin and a non-solvent for lignin having a ratio of non-solvent to solvent; and increasing the ratio of the non-solvent to the solvent to produce an aqueous dispersion of colloidal lignin particles. The dispersions are stable and the colloidal lignin particles are useful for many applications such as rheology modifiers in three-dimensional printing of hydrogels, or in purification systems such as filters, and packed columns, and as flocculants.

  • Patent number: 10787687
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a method for obtaining sugar and lignin fractions from lignocellulosic materials and to a method for producing fermentation products using the sugars obtained from the lignocellulose. The present disclosure also relates to a method for improving the sugar yield in the enzymatic hydrolysate by introducing a pre-treatment step of hydrothermal hydrolysis with a delignification step using a cationic compound.

  • Patent number: 9890403
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to methods for producing microbial lipids. The present disclosure also relates to methods for producing microbial lipids using inhibitors obtainable from lignocellulosic materials to suppress the proliferation of unwanted microorganisms in the fermentation broth. The method can therefore reduce the risk of having contaminating microbes establish in the system and the cultivation and thus higher yields of microbial lipids may be obtained.
