  • Patent number: 9932071
Abstract: An energy absorbing assembly includes a beam that extends in a first direction, a structural member that extends in a second direction transverse to the beam, a load transfer structure that restrains motion of the beam relative to the structural member by transferring lateral loads between the beam and the structural member, and a recess defined in the structural member. The beam is connected to the structural member within the recess and extends out of the recess. The beam is configured to shorten during an impact to define a failed portion of the beam, and the beam is connected to the structural member such that the failed portion of the beam is at least partially receivable in the recess.

  • Patent number: 9327677
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to an arrangement comprising a pyrotechnical device and a first mechanical structure. The pyrotechnical device is adapted to, directly, or indirectly, influence the first mechanical structure at a first location, such that the first mechanical structure is exposed to a deformation and/or a displacement. The deformation and/or displacement of the first mechanical structure at the first location is adapted to at a second location, being different from the first location, change a functional mode of the first mechanical structure and/or of a second mechanical structure connected to the first mechanical structure by means of direct mechanical influence. The disclosure further relates to a vehicle comprising such an arrangement.

  • Patent number: 8532881
Abstract: A connecting device arranged in a motor vehicle releasably connects a structural member of the vehicle to the vehicle chassis and includes a bolt joint system. The connecting device further includes a pyrotechnical charge and an igniter. The igniter detonates the pyrotechnical charge upon receipt of an ignition signal. The pyrotechnical charge is located near the bolt joint system such that, upon detonation, it destroys the connecting function of the bolt joint system and thereby releases the structural member from the chassis.

  • Publication number: 20100004826
Abstract: The present invention relates to a connecting device (8) arranged in a motor vehicle (1) for releasably connecting a structural member (2) of the vehicle (1) to the vehicle chassis (3), said connecting device (8) comprising a bolt joint system (9). The connecting device (8) further comprises a pyrotechnical charge (23) and an igniter (23), said igniter (23) being adapted to, when receiving an ignition signal, bring said pyrotechnical charge (23) to detonate, said pyrotechnical charge (23) being located near the bolt joint system (9) such that it, upon detonation, destroys the connecting function of the bolt joint system (9), for releasing said structural member (2) from the chassis (3).

  • Patent number: 7537273
Abstract: There is described an impact force coupling assembly operable to couple impact forces from an upright member of a road vehicle to a horizontal transverse member thereof during an impact event. The assembly has a first region and a second region, and is operable to be impinged or captured between the members during the impact event. The assembly includes cavities including dividing walls therebetween, the dividing walls extending along the assembly in a direction from the first region to the second region. Capture of the assembly during the impact event is affected by intrusive deformation of the side walls at the regions of the assembly by portions of the transverse member and the upright member. The coupling assembly is preferably fabricated as a unitary extruded aluminum component. The upright member and the transverse member are preferably a heel-kick and a B-pillar respectively of the vehicle.
