  • Patent number: 10999177
Abstract: A first node (110) and a method therein for managing modes of operation of a service, referred to as “service modes” are disclosed. The service is executed in the first node (110). The service is capable of communicating with a second node (120) over a wireless network (100). The first node (110) receives an estimated level of a connectivity for the service from the wireless network (100). The estimated level of the connectivity relates to likelihood of maintaining the connectivity to the second node (120). The first node (110) selects one of the service modes based on the estimated level of the connectivity. Moreover, corresponding computer programs and computer program products are disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20110053631
Abstract: A method and apparatus provide advantageous uplink power control for a set of uplink channels transmitted by a mobile terminal or other item of user equipment (UE). The proposed uplink power control maintains the total received power for the set of uplink channels at or about a target received power, while also maintaining the received signal quality for a subset of those channels—e.g., a particular one of them—at or about a target received signal quality. In an advantageous but non-limiting example embodiment, the subset comprises a fixed-rate control channel, and the set includes that control channel and a variable-rate traffic channel. Correspondingly, a base station generates first power control commands to maintain the received signal quality of the control channel at or about some quality target, and generates second power control commands to maintain the total received power (of the two channels) at or about some power target.

  • Patent number: 7436901
Abstract: One or more radio characteristics are considered to determine selection of one or more of the following: interleaving scheme, channel coding scheme, modulation scheme, and/or transmission scheme. Accounting for these factors and interdependencies improves performance in a mobile radio communications system. One example performance measure is throughput over the radio interface.

  • Publication number: 20040127163
Abstract: A method and apparatus for link quality estimation of a potential TDMA-based wireless communication link between a mobile station (10) and a target base station (16a). The mobile station (10) receives a signal on a channel frequency of the target base station (16a c) for measuring a link quality and identifying the target base station (16a c) simultaneously based on the same received signal. The mobile station (10) qualifies the measurement if the target base station (16a e) was identified properly. If not, the measurement is discarded. Measurements can then be tied to specific base stations more reliably, and are at the same time up to date when reported. This provides for secure connections and enables a tighter frequency reuse for enhancing the overall traffic capacity in the network.

  • Publication number: 20010056560
Abstract: Hybrid ARQ techniques for error handling are described. The amount of redundancy transmitted in response to a first NACK message associated with a first attempt to decode a data block is variable. The number of redundancy units transmitted (and/or requested) can be selected based on various criteria including, for example, estimated channel quality, estimated block quality, memory usage, a number of outstanding blocks, etc.

  • Patent number: 6125148
Abstract: A method of demodulating voice or data and control information in systems that support multiple modulation schemes modulates voice or data using a first linear modulation scheme, such as 16QAM modulation scheme, and modulates control information using a second linear modulation scheme, for example, QPSK modulation scheme, that has the same symbol rate as that of the first modulation scheme. The first linear modulation scheme has a higher modulation level than the second linear modulation scheme. Information modulated using the second linear modulation scheme, which uses a reduced signal set of the first linear modulation scheme, are demodulated using the same demodulator that is used for demodulating information modulated using the first linear modulation scheme. Also, in-band signalling information within a traffic channel, such as stealing flags, are modulated using the second modulation scheme.

  • Patent number: 5933768
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for estimating an interfering-signal component portion of a receive signal received at a receiver. The training sequence associated with the interfering-signal component portion is determined, even without prior knowledge of the training sequence associated with such interfering-signal component portion. Once the training sequence of the interfering-signal component portion is determined, the receive signal is selectively, jointly-detected utilizing a joint detector, the interfering-signal component portion of the receive signal is better able thereby to be canceled or otherwise suppressed.

  • Patent number: 5909469
Abstract: A communication system supports multiple modulation schemes having differing symbol rates. The system supports two modulation schemes that have the same symbol rate and at least one modulation scheme that does not have the same symbol rate. For as long as communication can be carried out using the modulation schemes with the same symbol rate, the system avoids using the modulation scheme with different symbol rate, even if communication can be carried out using this scheme.
