  • Patent number: 6261415
Abstract: A paper machine and web control system for the same to be activated on web rupture, which paper machine has a double-felted press nip and a treatment unit for increasing the dry solids content of the web downstream of the press nip, the web being transferred from the press nip to the treatment unit in an open draw. The web control system has a water-application device arranged at the open draw to discharge jets of water against the upper press felt on rupture of the web so as to prevent an upstream end of the web continuing with the upper press felt, a felt-deflection device situated downstream of the press nip to bring the press felts into contact with each other downstream of the press nip on rupture of the web so as to sandwich the web between the felts, and a suction device in the loop of the lower press felt at a position between the press nip and the felt-deflection device to temporarily attach the web to the lower press felt by suction.

  • Patent number: 6131784
Abstract: A device for drawing a web through an open draw in a paper or board machine with the aid of a leader, said open draw extending between a first web-carrying element and a second web-carrying element, said device comprising a stand structure and a transfer member having the width of the leader. According to the invention the transfer member is arranged to be inserted at and above the first web-carrying element and set in various predetermined positions, the device having setting members for setting the position and direction of the transfer member in relation to the second web-carrying element; a travelling member to carry and move the transfer member; and actuator for operating the travelling member.

  • Patent number: 6093283
Abstract: A method of supporting a press shoe in a shoe press for a paper or board machine, said press shoe forming together with a counter roll an extended nip for a paper or cardboard web and for a flexible circulated belt. On the outside of the loading cylinder of the press shoe there is arranged a compartment, to which hydraulic fluid is supplied in such a manner that the hydraulic fluid in the compartment directly or indirectly exerts a force upon the press shoe in the direction opposite to that of the force exerted upon the press shoe by the loading cylinder. The cylinder part of the loading cylinder is movably arranged on the piston part. Said forces are dimensioned such that in operation they create a gap between the press shoe and the loading cylinder, or between the supporting beam of the press shoe and the loading cylinder, thereby allowing hydraulic fluid to flow out of the compartment.

  • Patent number: 6010443
Abstract: An elastic clamping ring for an enclosed shoe press roll used to clamp the jacket to the gables of the shoe press roll is disclosed. A rigid clamping ring is arranged on the inner side of each gable to form a groove which opens outwardly in the radial direction and in which the elastic clamping ring is received. A stop member is arranged radially outside the elastic clamping ring. By operation of securing members, the rigid clamping ring is forced in the direction of the peripheral gable part in order to squeeze the elastic clamping ring such that it expands outwardly in the radial direction and clamps the edge of the jacket between itself and the stop member. The invention also relates to a shoe press roll that uses an elastic clamping ring with a hexagonal cross section for clamping of the jacket of the shoe press roll to the gables of the shoe press roll.
