  • Patent number: 8657368
Abstract: A mechanism for increasing stiffness of the side-structure of a vehicle, for transferring loads and strain energy, and for improving rigidity from the lower portion of a side pillar, to the underbody structural components of the vehicle. The vehicle includes a hydroformed tube having a horizontal portion, a vertical portion and an arcuate central portion. The upper end of the vertical portion is spot welded to the lower portion of the side pillar. The horizontal portion is received into, and spot welded to, an inner portion of a structural member. The structural member is an L-shaped bracket, and its major portion is spot welded to an inner portion of an elongated beam. The beam is fixedly attached to the side rail of the vehicle. The tubular member, the structural member, and the elongated beam, when connected, form a closed continuous box shaped structure, which reinforces the side-structure of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 8162519
Abstract: A lighting arrangement for the interior of an automotive vehicle in which the light source, such as an LED, is recessed into the interior structure of the vehicle and covered with a layer of fabric. The light source is invisible when not in use, but shines through the fabric/foam layer when illuminated, and can be associated with a light transmitting member, such as a light bar and a light pipe. Such lighting arrangements can be disposed within the headliner to direct light where desired and for different functions, such as a map light or for area lighting. The lighting arrangement can be mounted in non-traditional locations, such as on vertically oriented pillars, visors, door panels, seat backs, seat fronts, and console sides. The light source is preferably one or more LEDs associated with a light transmitting medium to direct the discharge of light as desired within the automotive interior.

  • Publication number: 20110285178
Abstract: A vehicle headliner includes an air permeable foam having open cells and a surface cover adhered to one side of the foam core. An air permeable hydrophobic layer is adhered to the opposite side of the foam core. The hydrophobic layer restricts liquid penetration and allows air permeation into the headliner for acoustic dampening.

  • Patent number: 6801149
Abstract: A switched capacitor digital/analog converter is provided for performing non-linear conversion. An input receives an n bit digital word for conversion. The individual bits of the input word control electronic switches which switch the plates of n capacitors between upper and lower reference voltages. The capacitors have values C0, . . . Cn−1 such that Cx<Cx+1 for each integer x greater than −1 and less than (n−1) and such that Cy+1 is different from 2·Cy for at least one integer y greater than −1 and less than (n−1). The other electrodes of the capacitors are connected together and to the output of the converter.

  • Patent number: 6791325
Abstract: An MR system isolation impedance mismatch apparatus (12) includes an impedance mismatch layer (24). The impedance mismatch layer (24) performs as a mechanical notch filter and isolates an MR system component (14) from a surrounding structure (18). A method of tuning the impedance mismatch apparatus (12) includes determining a default notch filter frequency range. The impedance mismatch apparatus (12) is formed and performs as a notch filter having the default notch filter frequency range. The impedance mismatch apparatus (12) is installed and tested between the MR system component (14) and the surrounding structure (18). Vibrations are detected in the MR system component (14) and in the surrounding structure (18). The impedance mismatch apparatus is adjusted in response to the detected vibrations.
