  • Publication number: 20040129458
Abstract: The present invention generally relates to an apparatus for drilling one or more holes at an angle to a wellbore. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes a tubular housing defining one or more openings. Each opening is configured to provide an exit through which a drilling assembly drills to form a hole at an angle to the wellbore. The apparatus further includes one or more deflectors. Each deflector defines a surface for guiding the drilling assembly through an opening, and each deflector is positioned inside the tubular housing such that the surface is facing the opening. The apparatus further includes an anchor having a bottom portion attached to a top portion of the tubular housing and having a top portion configured to be removably fixed to a conveyance tubular.

  • Patent number: 5567091
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the feeding and accumulation of bottles in an air conveyance system, which has a swing-arm air conveyor with a flexible guide joint which allows the efficient conveyance of bottles from a single-lane source of bottles to a plurality of recipient air conveyors for accumulation and handling. The swing-arm air conveyor also includes a second flexible guide joint which provides for the delivery of the bottles to the recipient air conveyors in a direction parallel to the direction of the single-line source of bottles. The apparatus and method is also used for the conveyance of bottles from a plurality of feed air conveyors to a single-lane recipient air conveyor. The flexible guide joint allows the swing-arm air conveyor to be pivoted while still maintaining a continuous chamber through which bottles are conveyed.

  • Patent number: 5375098
Abstract: A LWD tool is disclosed comprising, a stator, a rotor which rotates relative to the stator thereby effecting a signal in the borehole fluid flowing therethrough, a brushless DC motor coupled to the rotor for driving the rotor, a position sensor coupled to the motor for sensing the rotational position of the motor, motor drive electronics coupled to motor for driving the motor, and a microprocessor coupled to the position sensor and to the drive electronics for controlling the drive signals to the motor based on the actual and desired positions of the motor. By controlling the drive signal to the motor, the speed of the motor is controlled, thus effecting changes in frequency and/or phase of the signal in the borehole fluid or mud. With the ability to change the frequency and/or phase, different encoding techniques such as PSK-type and FSK-type can be used.
