Patent number: 7584299Abstract: The gateway devices in a VPN require configuration when the VPN is set up and to reflect changes. To process the configuration tasks efficiently, a method is described of configuring a virtual private network (VPN) within a shared network, in which a queue of configuration tasks is created for gateway devices belonging to the VPN. The configuration tasks include sending static network routing information to said gateway devices. The tasks are deployed by retrieving a next task from the queue, and interrogating the gateway device to which the task relates, to identifying any change in subnetworks connected thereto since the task was created. If no change is identified, the retrieved task is performed. If, on the other hand, a change is identified, update configuration tasks are created for all relevant gateway devices in the VPN.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 2005Date of Patent: September 1, 2009Assignee: 3Com CorporationInventors: David John Maxwell, Robert Duncan, Steven James Urouhart, Mike Moran

Patent number: 7299277Abstract: A probe apparatus, method and computer program product for application monitoring are provided. A data collection module collects data from a network segment. A flow processor coupled to the data collection module classifies the collected data into a plurality of flows. A capture system coupled to the flow processor filters and buffers the collected data. A main processor processes the filtered data.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 2002Date of Patent: November 20, 2007Assignee: Network General TechnologyInventors: Mike Moran, Tauras Liubinskas, Jack Goral

Patent number: 6633835Abstract: A system, method and computer program product are provided for adaptive priority data filtering. Data is collected from a network segment and classified into multiple flows. The flows are prioritized into high and low priority flows. High priority flows are stored in a high priority queue prior to processing, while low priority flows are stored in a low priority queue prior to processing. An amount of data in the high priority flows is monitored. Buffers from the low priority queue are reallocated to the high priority queue if the amount of data in the high priority flows surpasses a predetermined threshold.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 2002Date of Patent: October 14, 2003Assignee: Networks Associates Technology, Inc.Inventors: Mike Moran, Tauras Liubinskas, Jack Goral

Patent number: 6477572Abstract: A method for displaying a network topology begins by presenting a user a set of attributes for network objects in the network. The user the selects a given attribute and an attribute value. A mapper routine of the invention then builds a topology map that includes at least one icon representing network objects that have the user-selected attribute value for the attribute. This “group” icon preferably includes a numeric, textual or graphical representation to indicate the number of objects (or perhaps some given characteristic thereof) represented by the group icon.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1998Date of Patent: November 5, 2002Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: John Elderton, Ronald L.
