  • Publication number: 20230265717
Abstract: Cutting elements are installed on the outer surface of a drill bit body such that the surface profile supports the plurality of cutting elements in a desired orientation. Each cutting element has a substrate with a rear end, a leading end that carries a cutting portion, and a cylindrical surface therebetween. The cutting elements are installed within a cavity on the drill bit body such that a portion of the substrate is exposed and the leading end leads the cutting element in a direction of rotation of the drill bit body. The cutting elements are bound on the outer surface by applying a composite to the outer surface and to the portion of the substrate that is exposed. The composite is a mixture of a matrix and cutting fragments and is in direct contact with about 40-75%% of the surface area of the substrate.

  • Patent number: 8657183
Abstract: A method of bonding poly-crystalline diamonds to a wear surface, using commercially available poly-crystalline diamond cutters having poly-crystalline diamond buttons bonded to a carbide core. The poly-crystalline diamond cutters are cooled with cryogenic liquid. The poly-crystalline diamond cutters are crushed to form poly-crystalline diamond cutter fragments, with each of the fragments having a poly-crystalline diamond button fragment still bonded to a carbide core fragment. The carbide core fragment is then bonded onto the wear surface, such that the wear surface includes poly-crystalline diamond buttons fragments.

  • Patent number: 8439133
Abstract: A down hole apparatus for generating a pulsing action includes a tubular housing a rotating first mandrel with a first cam profile and a reciprocating second mandrel with a second cam profile, which engages the first cam profile. Upon rotational movement of the first mandrel, the first cam profile exerts an axial force upon the second cam profile to initiate a pulsing action by forcing the second mandrel away from the first mandrel. Springs bias the second mandrel back toward the first mandrel, thereby completing the pulsing action and maintaining the second cam profile engaged with the first cam profile.

  • Patent number: 8201647
Abstract: An earth drilling reamer has an elongated body having an outer surface and a plurality of blade mounting supports extending radially outwardly from the outer surface of the body. Each blade mounting support has a primary blade engagement positioned parallel to the outer surface and a leading blade angled from the outer surface to the primary blade engagement. A removable primary blade is detachably secured to the primary blade engagement.
