  • Patent number: 10192709
Abstract: The present invention provides a relativistic magnetron including an anode with an entrant channel, the channel having an input end, an output end and a dimensional discontinuity between the ends. The channel is connected to the magnetron and has an anode defining an interaction space located between the dimensional discontinuity and output end. Also provided is a cathode, located upstream, a spaced distance away from the interaction space towards the input end, the cathode is adapted to send an electron beam into the interaction space where the electron beam forms a virtual cathode in the interaction space.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 1, 2017
Date of Patent: January 29, 2019
    Assignee: STC.UNM
Inventors: Edl Schamiloglu, Mikhail I. Fuks

  • Patent number: 8018159
Abstract: The present invention provides a relativistic magnetron with axial extraction, or magnetron with diffraction output (MDO), with a mode converter placed directly within the diffraction output of radiation to effectively convert the operating ?-mode into a radiated mode of simpler radiation patterns.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 23, 2008
Date of Patent: September 13, 2011
    Assignee: STC.UNM
Inventors: Mikhail I. Fuks, Edl Schamiloglu
  • Patent number: 7893621
Abstract: An “eggbeater” cathode comprising a transparent cathode including a plurality of longitudinally oriented cathode strips anchored at both ends between support discs and forming an open-walled hollow cylindrical structure. A cathode base is disposed substantially coaxially with a longitudinal axis of the transparent cathode and surrounded by the plurality of cathode strips, wherein the support discs secure the cathode strips to the cathode base and result in a cathode that is more robust in harsh operating environments compared with a simple transparent cathode.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 24, 2008
Date of Patent: February 22, 2011
    Assignee: STC.UNM
