Abstract: Methods of treating inorganic surfaces are provided. The methods include a step of applying an aqueous-based composition to the inorganic surface, in which the aqueous-based composition includes at least one transesterified alkoxy silane. The methods impart water resistance to the inorganic surface.

Abstract: Compositions are provided that include at least one water soluble non-ionic organosilane. The compositions may further include at least one ionic organosilicon compound. The compositions may be provided in a liquid form. For instance, the compositions may comprise a aqueous dispersion or aqueous solution. Also provided are compositions including soil, at least one water soluble non-ionic organosilane, and/or at least one ionic organosilicon compound. Methods of stabilizing soil are also provided that include applying at least one water soluble non-ionic organosilane alone or in combination with at least one ionic organosilicon compound.

Abstract: Disclosed are compositions comprising composite nanoparticles and a reporter molecule for use in detecting the presence of an analyte in a substrate. The composite nanoparticles comprise a solid core and a polyampholyte covalently bonded to the solid core. Reporter molecules are releasable from the composite nanoparticles upon exposure to the analyte. Analytes may include petroleum or other hydrophobic media.

Abstract: The present invention is related to processes for the preparation of asphalt compositions including a step of adding an organosilane composition, including one or more quaternary organosilane compounds, to an asphalt binder to provide a stable foamed asphalt binder composition. The foamed asphalt binder composition can be mixed with, sprayed onto, or otherwise coated substantially over the outer surface on an aggregate to provide an asphalt composition suitable for a variety of paving applications.
