  • Publication number: 20030116775
Abstract: A thin film EL device is disclosed which includes a hole-injecting electrode, an electron-injecting electrode paired with the hole-injecting electrode, and a functional layer provided between the hole-injecting electrode and the electron-injecting electrode and emitting light by application of an electric field produced by the electrodes. The electron-injecting electrode contains at least two or more different metals having different work functions and a capturing substance for capturing a low work function metal, which is a metal other than a highest work function metal among the above-described metals, in its ionic state. This configuration prevents deterioration of the low work function metal, increasing the luminance and lifetime of the device.

  • Publication number: 20030082400
Abstract: The present invention provides a thin film EL device having high electroluminescent efficiency, a low operating voltage, and a long lifetime. A thin film EL device of the present invention uses, as a luminescent layer, a charge-transport luminescent material that has, within a molecule, a portion contributing to charge transport and a portion contributing to luminescence where at least two molecular orbitals contributing to luminescent transition are localized.

  • Publication number: 20020139985
Abstract: A light-emitting device includes a plurality of light-emitting elements provided on a base material, each of the light-emitting elements including a pair of electrodes, and a light-emitting layer interposed between the electrodes. Light-emitting surfaces of the light-emitting elements are arranged along a standing direction with respect to the base material. The light-emitting elements are formed into a belt shape, a strap shape, a cylindrical shape or a columnar shape or formed to be porous, thereby increasing a surface area of the light-emitting element drastically so as to reduce a current amount per unit area, thus providing a light source with an extended lifetime even in a high luminance application.

  • Patent number: 6391482
Abstract: A new organic material for an electroluminescent device suitable for an electroluminescent device and an electroluminescent device using the same. The organic material uses a complex compound expressed by the following formula (F1): wherein R1 and R2, which can be same or different, respectively denote one selected from the group consisting of halogen, alkyl having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, and a bridging ligand having a nitrogen-containing aromatic ring containing at least two nitrogen atoms, and when R1 or R2 is a bridging ligand having a nitrogen-containing aromatic ring, nitrogen in the nitrogen-containing aromatic ring is a coordinating atom; R3, R4, R5 and R6, which can be same or different, respectively denote one member selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, an aryl derivative, a nitrogen-containing aromatic ring and a derivative of a nitrogen-containing aromatic ring; and M is a central metal.

  • Patent number: 5885498
Abstract: The present invention is to provide a organic light emitting device with high efficiency and long life of emitting light. The light emitting device comprises a positive electrode, a hole transporting layer, an electron transporting layer and a negative electrode on a substrate, the hole transporting layer if formed of triphenylamine tetramer as the major component, and 5,6,11,12-tetraphenylnaphthacene or 9,10-diphenylanthracene is added in a amount of 0.1-10% in the hole transporting layer. The hole transporting layer acts as a light emitting layer and suppressing reduction of luminance of the light and prevent the black spots from occurring and expanding so as to extend the life time. Furthermore, in the present invention, the transparent positive electrode is composed from two-layer structure comprising a hole injecting layer and a current distributing layer, this restricting occurrence of the black spots and reduction of the luminance due to the positive electrode.
