  • Patent number: 7771336
Abstract: In a variable cut-off length type rotary printing machine, to perform processes such as a process of folding a cut-off sheet with a high degree of accuracy, a folding machine includes a cut-off unit capable of varying and cutting a cut-off length of a web fed from a printing machine of the rotary printing machine, and a processor (such as a folder, etc.) for processing a sheet 10a cut off by the cut-off unit. Between the cut-off unit 50 and the processor, the folding machine further includes a first belt conveyor for conveying the sheet at a speed equal to the web, and a second belt conveyor for receiving the sheet from the first belt conveyor at a speed approximately equal to the sheet conveying speed of the first belt conveyor, then varying the conveying speed to a speed approximately equal to the sheet conveying speed of the processor, and delivering the sheet to processor.

  • Publication number: 20080295713
Abstract: A notching unit includes a notching blade and a notching blade holder. The notching blade holder is moved between a notch forming position where the notching blade forms intermittent notches in a folded signature and a groove waiting position where the notching blade does not form the intermittent notches in the folded signature.

  • Publication number: 20080277858
Abstract: A folding machine includes a lower conveyance belt that forms a lower conveyance path section for guiding and conveying a signature by a lower conveyance surface, an upper conveyance belt that forms an upper conveyance path section for guiding and conveying the signature by an upper conveyance surface, a chopper table for guiding the lower conveyance belt, a stopper for aligning a downstream end position of the signature, and a chopper blade for forming a chopper signature. A coefficient of static friction of the lower conveyance surface and the upper conveyance surface to an iron surface is 0.2 or more and less than 0.3, and a nip roller for increasing holding force to the signature between the lower conveyance surface and the upper conveyance surface is provided at a part more upstream side than the stopper by at least a length of the signature.

  • Publication number: 20080122157
Abstract: A folding device includes a first folded-sheet clamping device and a second folded-sheet clamping device that are arranged on a decelerating roller. A first cam causes the first clamping device and the second clamping device to release a folded sheet into any one of a first sheet discharge path and a second sheet discharge path. When two folded sheets are held by each of the clamping devices, a second cam controls part of the first cam to cause the second clamping device not to release a sheet into the first sheet discharge path and to release a sheet into the second sheet discharge path.

  • Patent number: 6237912
Abstract: A signature conveying apparatus is disclosed which is structured simply and which enables a stable high-speed operation to be performed when a chopper-folding operation is performed by conveying the signatures to a chopper-folding unit at a low speed. A signature conveying unit of a folding machine incorporates a delivery cylinder which is rotated at a speed lower than the peripheral speed of a gripping cylinder and a speed-reduction cylinder. A high-speed conveying means conveys signatures received from the delivery cylinder and the speed-reduction cylinder at the same peripheral speed as that of the delivery cylinder and the speed-reduction cylinder. A speed-change conveying means receives the signatures conveyed from the high-speed conveying means to convey the signatures to a low-speed conveying means such that the conveyance speed is gradually reduced.

  • Patent number: 4957280
Abstract: The known pinless folding machine in the prior art is improved in that the speed-up conveyor belts therein is removed, the drive at an increased speed of the folding drum, the clamping drum and the conveyor belts is abolished, but instead, drive at the same speed as the web is effected for these three members. More particulary, there are provided a first cutter drum and a first cutter receiver drum, a second cutter receiver drum, a head end push-in drum, and drum-round conveyor belts wrapped around the folding drum and traveling at the same speed as the web. Cutting of the web is effected twice between the first cutter drum and the receiver drum therefor and between the second cutter receiver drum and a second cutter device disposed on the folding drum, and the web is perfectly cut by the second cutter device. Accordingly, perfect cutting of the web is effected on the folding drum.
