  • Patent number: 8755090
Abstract: The image reading apparatus includes an operation unit operated by a user for detecting an instruction from the user, a transportation unit for transporting a read medium, a medium detector for detecting the read medium, a reader for reading the read medium, and an instruction detector for detecting the instruction from the user. The instruction detector is different from the operation unit. Moreover, the apparatus includes a controller for performing control, based on the instruction from the user. The instruction detector is valid between a time when the medium detector detects the read medium and a time when reading the read medium is finished.

  • Patent number: 8693065
Abstract: A carry case includes a body, a cover, and a lock unit. The body houses an image scanner. The cover is supported with respect to the body such that the cover can rotate around a longitudinal direction of the body. The lock unit locks the cover to the body in a closing state in which the cover covers the body after being rotated with respect to the body in an approaching direction along which the cover approaches the body. The cover is rotated with respect to the body in a withdrawing direction opposite to the approaching direction while the lock held by the lock unit is being released, so that the cover is developed to form a discharge path of a read medium.

  • Patent number: 8575581
Abstract: An apparatus includes: a body including a port into which a medium is insertable; a light source that is provided in the body and illuminates when an image is read for the medium that has been inserted into the port; a guide and output unit that is optically connected to the light source, guides light emitted from the light source, and outputs the guided light into the port; a receiver that detects the output light; and a determiner that determines whether the medium has been inserted into the port based on a result of the detection. The light source also illuminates when the determiner makes the determination. A region in the port through which the light output from the light guide and output unit passes exists from one end to the other end of the port in a width direction being a longitudinal direction of the port.

  • Patent number: 8446651
Abstract: An image reading device includes a light source, an imaging unit that captures an image of an original using light from the light source, a conveying unit that conveys the original to the imaging unit, a casing that accommodates at least the imaging unit and the conveying unit, the casing having an insertion slot for feeding the original to the conveying unit, a determination unit that determines whether or not the image reading device is in a conveyable state in which the conveying unit is enabled to convey the original toward the imaging unit, and a notification unit that visually indicates whether or not the image reading device is in an insertion-enabled state enabling the original to be inserted through the insertion slot to the conveying unit based on determination made by the determination unit.
