    Abstract: An intake system for a multiple cylinder engine includes a plurality of discrete intake passages which respectively communicate with the cylinders of the engines at the respective downstream ends and merge together at the respective upstream ends so as to form a merging portion, a common intake passage which communicates with the merging portion at the downstream ends and with the atmosphere by way of an air cleaner at the upstream end, and a resonance muffler which communicates with the air cleaner and has a resonance frequency which corresponds to the fundamental resonance frequency of the portion of the intake system upstream of the merging portion.
