  • Publication number: 20050186467
Abstract: An electrode for a polymer electrolyte fuel cell includes a polymer electrolyte membrane, and a catalyst layer provided at at least one side of the polymer electrolyte membrane. The catalyst layer is manufactured by application of a catalyst paste. The catalyst paste contains an electrolytic solution, in which electrolytes of different equivalent weights (EWs) are dissolved, or dispersed, and which the electrolytic solution is dissolved, or dispersed in a dispersing medium and a particle supporting a catalyst having electric conductivity, also dissolved, or dispersed, in the dispersing medium. The catalyst paste is manufactured by blending and dispersing an electrolytic solution in which an electrolyte of a low EW is dissolved, or dispersed, into the dispersing medium to a high level of dispersion, and blending and dispersing an electrolytic solution in which an electrolyte of a high EW is dissolved, or dispersed, into the dispersion medium to a low level of dispersion.

  • Publication number: 20050181270
Abstract: A proton-exchange membrane fuel cell includes a polymer electrolyte membrane, a catalyst layer provided on a surface of the polymer electrolyte membrane, a diffusion layer provided on a surface of the catalyst layer, and a membrane-electrode assembly including the polymer electrolyte membrane, the catalyst layer, and the diffusion layer. The catalyst layer includes a fibrous electric conductive material. A content of the fibrous electric conductive material in a region around a first end portion of the catalyst layer close to the diffusion layer in thickness direction is greater than a content of the fibrous electric conductive material in a region around a second end portion of the catalyst layer close to the polymer electrolyte membrane.

  • Publication number: 20040247991
Abstract: An electrode for fuel cell assembled to a solid polymer electrolyte membrane includes catalyst carrier particles, catalyst retaining particles formed by retaining a catalyst at the catalyst carrier particles, and a plurality of catalyst layers including the catalyst retaining particle. An aggregate average particle diameter of the catalyst carrier particle of the catalyst layer contacting the solid polymer electrolyte membrane is smaller than a aggregate average particle diameters of the catalyst carrier particle of other catalyst layers.

  • Patent number: 4154900
Abstract: A composite material of a ferrous cladding material and an aluminum cast matrix which composite material exhibits excellent performance and a method for producing the same which can be carried out quite easily. The composite material comprises a ferrous cladding material, powder particles bonded to the ferrous cladding material, seizing portions defined by the powder particles, and a cast matrix of aluminum or its alloy held by the seizing portions. The method comprises the steps of spreading powder particles over a ferrous cladding material, bonding the powder particles to the ferrous cladding material by sintering, and casting aluminum or its alloy over the sintered surface. Further, a metallic layer can be formed between the bonded powder particles and the cast aluminum, by plating.
