    Abstract: A magnetic disc apparatus having a magnetic disc on which information is recorded, a magnetic head and a magnetic head supporting mechanism. The magnetic head supporting mechanism includes a slider having the magnetic head mounted thereon, a load beam having an arm mounting portion and a pivot, and a gimbal having a mounting portion on which the slider is mounted, two flexible finger portions spaced from the load beam and supporting the mounting portion so that the slider is rotatable with respect to the pivot, and a base end portion which is joined to the load beam. The load beam has two openings formed therein in proximity to the pivot which enable viewing of a back surface of the mounting portion which is opposite to a surface of the mounting portion of the gimbal on which the slider is mounted.

    Abstract: A magnetic disc unit includes a rotating disc type magnetic disc having an outer periphery, and a carriage arm linked to a head support mechanism for a recording/reproducing head. A base has an outer periphery and mounts the rotating disc type magnetic disc and the carriage arm, and has a side wall with an inner wall surface having an opening for inserting the carriage arm. The inner wall surface of the side wall defines a shroud surrounding the outer periphery of the magnetic disc, except at the opening in the side wall where the shroud is projected inwardly so as to decrease an opening angle of the opening in the side wall. A gap between the outer periphery of the magnetic disc and the shroud is set in a range not less than 0.1 mm but not greater than 0.6 mm.

    Abstract: A magnetic disk apparatus includes a plurality of magnetic disks driven to rotate by a spindle motor, arms supporting magnetic heads on the magnetic disks, an actuator for moving the arms on the magnetic disks by a voice coil motor, and a housing which surrounds the magnetic disks, the arms and the actuator. A shroud which arcuately surrounds the magnetic disks along the outer periphery thereof has an opened portion for inserting the arms is formed in a part of the housing. The shroud on an upstream side of the arms relative to airflow generated by the magnetic disks when rotating is provided with an opening having a greater width than that of a gap defined between the shroud and the outer periphery of the magnetic disks. An empty bypass channel is provided which communicates from the opening through a rear side of the voice coil motor to the downstream side of the arms.

    Abstract: Embodiments of the invention enable the flying of a slider to be lowered and increase recording density with a simple configuration in a magnetic disk apparatus. In one embodiment, a magnetic disk apparatus comprises a magnetic disk including tracks for recording data; a magnetic head slider disposed with a magnetic head that flies over the rotating magnetic disk and records data to, or plays back data from, the magnetic disk; and a control device that controls the operation of the apparatus. Slider flying height data that vary inside the tracks are prerecorded in the tracks of the magnetic disk. The control device controls the operation of the magnetic head slider with respect to the magnetic disk on the basis of the slider flying height data recorded in the tracks.

The control unit controls the current to the heater according to the plurality of rotational speeds.

The controller reads out the specific pattern recorded on the disk utilizing the slider, and controls the position of the slider so as to move the slider while avoiding the load zone.
