  • Patent number: 5214947
Abstract: The present invention relates to a procedure for checking the straightness of elevator guide rails and straightening deflections of the rails, and an apparatus for implementing the procedure. The elevator guide rails are inspected by means of a measuring apparatus movable along the rail, which apparatus includes two guides adapted to lean against the rail in longitudinally spaced relation to each other, by measuring the distance separating the measuring apparatus and guide rail. This distance measurement is taken, using the measuring device, at a point between the guides. The measured deflections are straightened, and the straightened areas are then checked, again by means of the measuring apparatus, to verify the results.

  • Patent number: 5159995
Abstract: A safety gear for an elevator, in which the safety gear housing is mounted on the frame using transverse bars or the like. To prevent accidental gripping of the wedges when the elevator car moves laterally, the safety gear housing is allowed to move laterally along the bars. The safety gear is provided with guiding means placed on either side of the guide rail so that the clearance between them and the guide rail is smaller than the clearance between the wedge and the guide rail. Thus, when the lateral displacements of the frame of the elevator car relative to the guide rail exceeds the distance between the guiding means and the guide rail, the safety gear housing is moved laterally and a minimum distance between the wedge and the guide rail is maintained, said minimum distance being at least equal to the difference between said clearances.

  • Patent number: 5082118
Abstract: A device is disclosed for separating hard objects, such as stones, from a stream of wood in an apparatus for conveying or manipulating logs or blocks of wood including a conveyor section. The device includes a transducer disposed in a location suited for the detection of vibration. The transducer registers acoustic vibrations and is connected to a control unit by means of which hard objects conveyed along with the wood stream can be detected on the basis of the vibration signals they generate. The control unit is also used to control an exit gear incorporated in the conveyor section, so that hard objects which are detected will fall down from the stream of wood passing through the apparatus. The invention eliminates the need to build water-operated stone catchers as conventionally used for the removal of stones.

  • Patent number: 4865157
Abstract: A resilient mounting system for an elevator car in a car sling is provided, with the securement of the elevator car being resilient in the lateral direction and substantially more rigid in vertical direction. In prior art elevator car mounting designs, this problem could not be solved simply and efficiently. As taught by the invention, substantially vertically disposed, elongate supporting members are provided with both ends thereof attached to the frame of the car sling or equivalent, the supporting members extending to a securement point on the elevator car in such manner that the supporting members carry at least part of the weight of the elevator car.
