  • Patent number: 6067534
Abstract: In data transfer connections with disturbances, e.g. in cellular networks, it is possible to establish and maintain an optimal connection using the solution according to the present invention. The optimal parameters for each data transfer connection are saved in the modem database. When the user next calls a number, the data of which has been saved, the parameters saved in the database are first used for the connection control. Interference occurring during the data transfer is handled with the help of the database with adaptive logic searching for the optimal data transfer rate and other connection parameters.

  • Patent number: 5887266
Abstract: A method is provided for using an application (18) in a mobile station (1). The application has a first mode of operation and a second mode of operation. The first mode of operation is passive. In the second mode of operation the application (18) controls a master control unit (MCU) of the mobile station (1). Also provided is a system for making payments, comprising at least one mobile station (1) which has an associated application (18), a component for using the application (18), and a first transceiver (IR, 20, RF) for providing local data transfer. The system also comprises at least one cash register (21) or the like, which has a second transceiver for providing data transfer (IR2). The application (18) has a capability for causing data to be transferred from the first transceiver (IR) to the second transceiver (IR2).

  • Patent number: 5884103
Abstract: A data adapter functioning as an intermediary between a data terminal and a digital data transmission network is implemented by using the parts the data terminal usually comprises and by directing their activity by processor commands recorded in the memory of the data terminal.

  • Patent number: 5835862
Abstract: A data adapter unit, for converting data signals for IR wireless transmission between electronic devices, containing an IR-electrical converter, and IR and electrical input/output ports, and accommodating a removably connectable device, such as a cellular phone, and a removably connectable data converter such as a PC or cellular data card. The phone, when mounted in the adapter unit, exchanges voice and data signals through an internal interface with the removable PC card which converts the data signals for exchange through either the IR or electrical input/output signal ports. The signal ports communicate the data signals to an external device such as a personal computer or a modem and return signals therefrom. When the electrical port is connected to an outside device, the normal IR transmission is ceased in favor of the electrical output, or this function may be achieved by a user operated switch.

  • Patent number: 5809066
Abstract: An arrangement for enhancing data transmission in a digital cellular radio network, including a radio data terminal (A), a network terminating unit (IWF) connected to a mobile exchange (MSC) and including a data modem (MOD1), and a remote data modem (MOD2). The radio data terminal (A) and the remote data modem (MOD2) include features for providing data compression and decompression. The digital transmission connection between the radio data terminal (A) and the data modem (MOD1) is a non-transparent asynchronous data connection of a cellular radio system, over which compressed data is transmitted using the error correction of the cellular system. The error correction protocol of the remote modem is used for the transmission of compressed data over the modem connection between the data modem (MOD1) and the remote data modem (MOD2).

  • Patent number: 5657371
Abstract: In the connection between a radio telephone and a computer, the functions are divided substantially into two parts: adaptation of the levels of the interface connection wires is handled by the circuits of the cradle (2) of the radio telephone (1), and the control logic is disposed in the communications software (SW) of the computer (3). Physically, the interface comprises an RS232 interface (5) for the control and a two-wire PSTN line (6) between the modem (4) and the telephone.

  • Patent number: 5636264
Abstract: A radio telephone system comprising a transceiver unit and an external device, such as a handset, computer or telecopier, in wireless infrared signal communication with the transceiver unit. The information transmitted between the transceiver unit and the external device is transmitted as infrared digital pulses. The infrared pulses maybe transmitted in four digital time division multiplexed channels.
