Patent number: 4616449Abstract: A suction plate for a vacuum sanding device is in the form of a ring or rectangular plate spaced above a backup pad to define a chamber, the periphery of the suction plate is spaced slightly above the backup pad for the whole periphery of the plate and the outer edge of the plate is coterminous, or nearly so, with the edge of the backup pad. In one embodiment, the suction plate is formed of a relatively flexible plastic material. A series of spacers on the backup pad edge or the rim of the suction plate may be used. In a further embodiment a flexible cone or skirt is secured to the housing and extends down over the backup pad and the rim of the suction plate. Projections on the inside of the skirt serve to maintain a space between the latter and the suction plate rim.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1984Date of Patent: October 14, 1986Inventor: Miksa Marton

Patent number: 4516358Abstract: A clutch assembly for a sanding head is disclosed, the assembly giving a sanding head the dual functions of orbital sanding or rotary grinding. The assembly incorporates a clutch plate and actuating means between an eccentric drive head and backup pad secured thereto. The actuator moves the plate axially, depending on the rotational speed of the unit, into engagement with the drive head to effect a rotary grinding action. Release of the clutch plate therefrom due to a drop in speed converts the rotary action to one of an orbital path.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 1984Date of Patent: May 14, 1985Inventors: Miksa Marton, George Marton

Patent number: 4287685Abstract: A pad assembly for a vacuum rotary sander has a flexible pad body secured to a rigid head that is connectable to a vacuum housing and a pad rotating means. A plurality of apertures in the head communicate with other apertures in the lower surface of the pad by internal channels which are angled toward the direction of rotation of the pad. The apertures in the lower portion of the pad coincide with apertures in an abrasive disc removably secured to the assembly and may be elongated in the direction opposite to that of rotation so as to allow some slippage of the abrasive disc relative to the pad assembly. There is also disclosed a device for quickly positioning and loading an abrasive disc onto the pad assembly.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 1978Date of Patent: September 8, 1981Inventor: Miksa Marton

Patent number: 4184291Abstract: A vacuum hand sanding device consists of a back-up pad with sanding disc attached thereto detachably secured to a vacuum housing and vacuum source. The back-up pad has a plurality of apertures in the surface thereof and channels therein between the apertures and the housing. In one embodiment, a relief valve is provided on the housing and which can be covered by an operator's hand. In another embodiment, the relief valve is situated on a tubular handle connecting the back-up pad to the vacuum source. Means may be provided for adjustably altering the angle between the pad and the tubular handle.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 1977Date of Patent: January 22, 1980Inventor: Miksa Marton

Patent number: 3987589Abstract: An abrader, such as a motorized disk sander, is provided with an annular chamber which surrounds the disk and which has a plurality of small openings proximate the work surface. A depending skirt on the chamber confines the abraded material. The mounting of the chamber provides for limited axial and rocking movement of the chamber with respect to the abrader to facilitate catching abraded material from curved work surfaces and in instances where the abrader is applied at an acute angle to the work surface. The motility also facilitates installation and removal of the attachment and of abrasive sheets to and from the disk of the abrader. By preference, the mounting provides for unlimited rotation of the abrading machine body with respect to the chamber. In one embodiment, the chamber is provided with an enlarged "slug catcher" opening for capturing larger pieces abraded from the work surface.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1975Date of Patent: October 26, 1976Inventor: Miksa Marton

Patent number: 3935678Abstract: This invention relates to a vacuum attachment for an abrading machine wherein the vacuum is applied through a vacuum chamber having vacuum directing means close to the workpiece being abraded. The vacuum chamber is preferably adapted for movement relative to the abrader.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 1974Date of Patent: February 3, 1976Inventor: Miksa Marton
