  • Publication number: 20220007076
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for generating for display depictions of tournament-style competitions restricting user's access to any content that may spoil the results of the tournament. A user may request to view a display that contains a tournament and participating competitors. Requests may be received from users to view recordings of tournament competitions or a results display with the tournament bracket displayed. The media guidance application may access recorded versions of competitions front internal and external directories. Furthermore, the media guidance application may compare user viewing progress data and competitor progress data to ensure the user does not prematurely view results of any competitions of interest to the user.

  • Publication number: 20210352373
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided herein for generating notifications based on the interests of guests. Guests may request notifications on their host's television, and the system will generate notifications based on the guest's interests and preferences as stored in the guest's user profile. In doing so, the guest will be notified of events of interest, such as when a favorite sports team scores a point or when an important scene in a favorite movie is playing. The system monitors the network of the apartment or house and detects when a guest device is accessing the network. The system then accesses the guest's interests and identifies a set of programs based on these interests. The system then monitors these programs and generates notifications on the display device when an event of interest has occurred in one of the identified programs.

  • Publication number: 20210250634
Abstract: Systems and methods for updating advertisements embedded in a media asset scheduled for download at a future time. The media guidance application may receive a request from a user to download a media asset at a future time, where the media asset includes a plurality of embedded advertisements. The media guidance application may determine whether to update an embedded advertisement in the plurality of embedded advertisements. After determining to update the embedded advertisement, the media guidance application may replace the embedded advertisement with an updated advertisement in the media asset.

  • Publication number: 20210168436
Abstract: Systems and methods are described to address shortcomings in the conventional network storage systems via novel techniques to store offsets of a recorded program in a network digital video recorder (DVR). Storing offsets of a recorded program may be beneficial to users that would like to record media content that is broadcast either prior to a start time of a program, or media content that is broadcast after an end time of a program. This feature may be useful when start times and end times of a program are variable (e.g., in the case of sporting events, or other real-time events). This feature may also be useful for recording content of interest that is scheduled for broadcast prior to a start time of or after an end time of the program.

  • Publication number: 20200021661
Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for detecting information that indicates that a user will be traveling from a first geographic location to a second geographic location, and responsively accessing a playlist indicated by a profile of the user that indicates a plurality of streaming media that the user intends to consume. Control circuitry may then compare data corresponding to each streaming media of the plurality of streaming media to a database to determine whether each streaming media of the plurality of streaming media is accessible to the user at the second geographic location, and may determine that a subset of the plurality of media is not accessible to the user at the second geographic location. In response to determining that the subset is not accessible to the user at the second geographic location, the control circuitry may download each media of the subset.

  • Publication number: 20200011678
Abstract: Systems and methods are described ensuring that a user will be able to consume selected media content in its entirety. In particular, a media guidance application described herein determines an amount of time (102) required to reach a destination (116) and compares this time to an amount of time required to consume media content (104). If the amount of time (104) exceeds the amount of time (102) required to reach the destination, it calculates a route (120) for a current trip in which the length of time required to traverse a calculated route corresponds to the play length of the selected media asset.

  • Publication number: 20190306587
Abstract: Systems and methods to address shortcomings in conventional systems that traditionally provide interactive television services. In some aspects, the systems and methods provide for a method for managing an interactive session in an interactive media guidance application. The interactive media guidance application receives a user selection of a media asset. The interactive media guidance application stores, in a buffer, an advertisement received during display of the media asset. The interactive media guidance application receives a user request to initiate an interactive session. The interactive media guidance application analyzes the buffer for information relating to the advertisement based on the user request to initiate the interactive session. The interactive media guidance application receives a user request for information in the interactive session.

  • Patent number: 10433019
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for adaptive storage and scheduling of media assets. A user may request a media guidance application, which may be implemented at a set-top box of user equipment, to record or store a series of media assets relating to a participant of interest. The media guidance application may forwardly record a first set of scheduled media assets relating to a participant of interest of a user and backwardly download a second set of stored media assets relating to the participant of interest from a cloud storage server to a local storage unit at user equipment, and then download the stored media assets for watching.
