The system monitors the network of the apartment or house and detects when a guest device is accessing the network. After determining to update the embedded advertisement, the media guidance application may replace the embedded advertisement with an updated advertisement in the media asset.

This feature may be useful when start times and end times of a program are variable (e.g., in the case of sporting events, or other real-time events).
