    Abstract: A method to collect a plurality of target zones from a plurality of channels. The method includes introducing a plurality of compound mixtures into a plurality of microchannels on a microfabricated chip or a capillary tube. Optical signal measured at a detector window provides a signal of the position of a target zone. When a target zone has migrated to the location of a detector window, the detector senses an optical signal from the target zone and signals the system to disconnect a driving force from that channel. Once a plurality of zones in a plurality of channels are aligned, the driving force is reconnected and the zones are coeluted into a collection container.

    Abstract: A column packing material to be used in gel permeation chromatography (GPC) consists of support particles with a mean particle diameter of 1 to 50.mu. of which the matrix is formed by an inorganic or organic, polymeric and porous hard material with a mean pore diameter of 6 to 50 nm and a pore volume of 0.1 to 3 ml/g, the matrix pores containing chemically bound polymer chains. The column packing material of the invention is characterized in that the polymer chains consist of linear, permeable and not-crosslinked polymers with an upper exclusion limit between 200 and 200,000, the pores of the matrix being entirely filled by the polymer chains. The method of the invention is characterized in that the pores of the support particles are filled by polymer chains chemically bound to the pore surfaces, these polymer chains being permeable to solvents and partly to dissolved substances.

    Abstract: Method of and appartus for liquid recirculation in at least substantially closed circuit which is particularly suitable for recycled liquid chromatography. The circulating liquid is brought into motion in the circuit inlet by working fluid supplied under pressure, e.g. from a pump, pressure gas cylinder, or the like. Circulating liquid approaching the end of the circuit beyond the circuit outlet is mechanically and at regular intervals repeatedly transported in the form of slugs into the beginning of the circuit in advance of the circuit inlet where these slugs are again forced into the circuit inlet by means of working fluid. The injection of one slug into the circuit inlet and the pushing of the following slug of equal volume out from the circuit outlet are carried out simultaneously.
