  • Publication number: 20120028772
Abstract: The invention relates to a roller of the type that comprises, on one hand, a drive shaft, which has a cylindrical envelope surface having a certain outer diameter and a certain length, and, on the other hand, a shorter roller ring, which includes an outer ring of a hard material and an inner ring concentric with the same and of a more ductile material, which includes a cylindrical inside having a certain inner diameter and is, on one hand, permanently united to the outer ring in a metallurgical way, and, on the other hand, rotationally rigidly connected with the drive shaft in order to, from the same, transfer torque to the outer ring. According to the invention, the rotationally rigid joint between the drive shaft and the roller ring solely consists of a shrink-fit joint that is established between the envelope surface of the drive shaft and the inside of the inner ring and has an interference of at least 0.01% of the outer diameter of the drive shaft.

  • Publication number: 20060287179
Abstract: A combi roll includes a shaft having two spaced-apart stop rings a plurality of roll rings placed between the stop rings, which roll rings individually are composed of an outer ring of a hard metal, and a concentric inner ring of a more ductile metal, which is permanently bonded to the outer ring metallurgically, and has a flange that projects a distance axially from an end of the outer ring. The individual roll ring is rigidly connected to the shaft by way of one or more locking pins, which are inserted in through holes in the projecting flange of the inner ring and engage holes in the shaft.

  • Patent number: 4208953
Abstract: A plunger comprises a carrier and a hollow sleeve portion extending around a portion of the carrier. The sleeve portion rests between longitudinally spaced radial shoulders of the carrier. A portion of the carrier disposed within the sleeve is radially spaced from the sleeve to form a gap, which gap is pressurized to counteract pressures acting exteriorly on the sleeve portion. The gap can communicate with the environment surrounding the plunger so that external pressures pressurize the gap before or during plunger operation. The carrier may comprise a body portion and a cover portion which are connected by means of extensions which project through the sleeve portion. The sleeve portion can be formed of a material having a smaller coefficient of expansion than the body portion or cover portion.
