  • Patent number: 5011902
Abstract: A plywood-patching composition is provided based on a non-cellular polyurethane elastomer prepared by reacting a polyether or polyester polyol with a polyisocyanate in the presence of a catalytic amount of a co-catalyst system comprising an organo-bismuth compound, preferably a bismuth salt of a carboxylic acid, and at least one organo-metallic compound, preferably a metal salt of a carboxylic acid, wherein the metal is selected from the group consisting of zinc, antimony and lithium and wherein the bismuth and metal are present in an effective mole ratio; and process for preparing same. The catalysts utilized are relatively non-toxic, yet they promote rapid polymerization with essentially no foaming for a wide variety of non-cellular polyurethane elastomeric applications, particularly in plywood-patch applications where even small amounts of foaming are deleterious to the properties thereof.

  • Patent number: 4260514
Abstract: A polyurethane foamable composition comprising a brominated diol and three polyols is disclosed. The resulting foam formed by reacting these polyols and a diol with an isocyanate has a flame spread of 25 or less and contains a smaller quantity of halogen compounds than usually contained in polyurethane foamable compositions. This combination of polyols and flame retardant shows improved physical strengths and adhesion to primed tank substrates between temperatures of 100.degree. to 160.degree. F.

  • Patent number: 4072623
Abstract: We disclose a combination of three polyols. Polyurethane foams formed by reacting these polyols with an isocyanate exhibit good foam-substrate adhesion and good foam surface properties. This combination of polyols performs especially well in spray applications and is ideally suited for use in cold weather.
