  • Patent number: 11202152
Abstract: A method for acoustic beamforming filter generation may be provided. Applying eigen decomposition to generate a matrix of eigenvectors and a matrix of eigenvalues to solve a pseudoinverse of a matrix of transfer functions. Substituting any eigenvalues in the matrix of eigenvalues that are less than a value of a gain control parameter with the value of the gain control parameter to form a revised matrix of eigenvalues. A matrix of spatial filter coefficients to apply to a sound signal received at least at the first speaker and at the second speaker may be calculated based on the matrix of eigenvectors, the revised matrix of eigenvalues, and a matrix of desired frequency responses.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: December 14, 2021
Assignee: The Regents of the University of California
Inventors: Miller Puckette, Elliot Patros, Tahereh Afghah

  • Patent number: 9417257
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing an effect of a chemical or biochemical agent on a system responsive to such agent, are disclosed. In practicing the method, a plurality of low-frequency time-domain signals of the agent are generated, each at a different at a different noise level within a selected noise level range. The signals are analyzed by producing spectral plots of the time-domain signals, and identifying an optimized agent-specific time-domain signal based on information in the spectral plots. A chemical or biological system responsive to the agent is exposed to the optimized time-domain signal by placing the system within the magnetic field of an electromagnetic transducer, and applying the signal to the transducer at a signal amplitude and for a period sufficient to produce in the system an agent-specific effect on the system.

  • Publication number: 20070231872
Abstract: Methods and apparatus inject noise into a substance, detect the combination of the noise and the signal emitted by the substance, adjust the noise until the combination signal takes on the characteristic of the signal generated by the substance through stochastic resonance, and apply such characteristic signals to responsive chemical, biochemical, or biological systems. The generated signal may be stored, manipulated, and/or transmitted to a remote receiver.

  • Patent number: 5524173
Abstract: A process and a device for the musical and vocal dynamic sound synthesis of formants associated with a fundamental sound. To produce a formant, a wave form is generated with is the sum of several sound components of the form ##EQU1## wherein .omega..sub.0 denotes the angular frequency of the fundamental sound, .omega..sub.s denotes a shift of angular frequency of the formant with respect to the fundamental sound, .omega..sub.c denotes the central angular frequency of this formant, and .delta. denotes the bandwidth of the latter. The amplitude of each component is of the form: ##EQU2## The frequency or angular frequency parameters are modulated temporally in order to carry out the dynamic sound synthesis, the phase relations between formants thus being preserved.
