  • Patent number: 7062265
Abstract: An architecture to support service features for wireless calls in a wireless telecommunication system is disclosed. Service feature administration for a wireless terminal is provided by a packet data feature server in a home network that is connected to a packet data network. During call setup on behalf of the wireless terminal, the feature server is accessed via the packet data network to manage service features that are specific to the wireless terminal.

  • Publication number: 20050047351
Abstract: A mobile TCP connection for mobile terminals/hosts (T/Hs) and a method for establishing and maintaining a mobile TCP connection while the IP addresses of the mobile T/Hs constantly change during the established mobile TCP connection. The method and device utilize a globally unique mobile TCP connection identification, which is included in every data segment communicated between the virtually connected mobile T/Hs, to always identify the mobile TCP connection. Using the mobile TCP connection identification, constantly changing IP addresses of the mobile T/Hs can be updated as the mobile T/Hs roam across the network.

  • Patent number: 6683871
Abstract: A method and apparatus for establishing a connection to a customer telecommunications station, having Internet service, but not currently connected to the Internet. In response to receipt by the Internet of a call to that station, the station is located for the purpose of notifying the station of the call. If the called station is a wireless station, the paging message includes an indication that the page is for an Internet Protocol, (IP) telephone call. For wireline stations, other alerting techniques are used to indicate that a station is being called on an Internet call. In response to receiving the notification, the called station automatically logs on to the Internet, and is assigned a temporary Internet Protocol address, (IPA). A connection is then established between the access point of the caller on the Internet, and the access point of the called customer. Advantageously, an Internet subscriber need not be presently connected to the Internet to receive IP telephone calls.

  • Patent number: 6147986
Abstract: A method of defining an address for a mobile terminal host (T/H) linked to a wired communications network, e.g, the global Internet. The method includes assigning an address to the mobile (T/H), the address corresponding in part to a first network base station to which the mobile T/H becomes linked, for example, by roaming into a cell of the base station. The address assigned to the mobile T/H is changed when the T/H roams and becomes linked to a second network base station, the changed address corresponding in part to the address of the second base station. At least one stationary terminal host in the network is informed of a current address assigned to the mobile T/H by establishing a connection between the mobile T/H and the stationary host. Message data is exchanged between the mobile and the stationary hosts as long as a connection is maintained between them.

  • Patent number: 5608729
Abstract: An architecture for a distributed CSMA/CD network using IEEE 802.3 protocol that is widely extended between transmitting and receiving nodes by placing some of the idle/busy/collision functions in one or more protocol control nodes which are located between the other nodes. The protocol control nodes do not perform resynchronization and are not bridge nodes, so their use does not cause any time delays. One application would be a cable TV system where the distant nodes would be the cable office node that is widely separated from a group of neighborhood local nodes. A protocol control node intermediately placed in close proximity to the local nodes provides the idle/busy/collision control functions while allowing the central office node to be located beyond the IEEE 802.3 maximum distance.

  • Patent number: 4817082
Abstract: A switching arrangement comprising a crossbar array of crosspoint elements where each column of crosspoint elements, is associated with its own control ring mechanism. The enabling of the individual crosspoint elements of a column and the subsequent transmission of packets are effected rapidly in response to a token, e.g., a single enable bit, that is circulated on the associated control ring. Contention delays between packets are eliminated by passing the token during, rather than after, packet transmission. Upon receipt of a token bit at a crosspoint element, the crosspoint element is enabled while concurrently the token is passed to the next crosspoint element.

  • Patent number: 4524440
Abstract: A fast circuit switching system that establishes a circuit for each packet-sized data communication. Information is conveyed from a number of communications modules in source channels to a number of port controllers and to a network. Information is conveyed from the network to destination channels. Each communications module includes a transmitter that transmits in an associated source channel, circuit setup request signals defining destination channels and also transmits data. Each port controller stores one of a number of status words defining the availability of the destination channels and each of these status words is cycled to each port controller. A port controller responds to one of the circuit setup request signals and to subsequent data, when one of the status words cycled thereto defines as available, a destination channel defined by the circuit setup request signal, by transmitting the circuit setup request signal and the subsequent data to the network.

  • Patent number: 4521880
Abstract: A fast circuit switching system that establishes a circuit for each packet-sized data communication. A time-slot interchanger included in the system network has a sequential access, circulating control memory, the contents of which can be rapidly and frequently changed with minimal impairment of time-slot interchanger throughput. Such changes are effected by controlling the transmission of information concerning established connections, from a control memory output register to a control memory input register and by controlling the transmission of information concerning new connections, to the control memory input register.

  • Patent number: 4484324
Abstract: A control information communication arrangement for a time division switching system having distributed control processors. An originating processor transmits circuit setup request control words including an address defining a destination processor, to a control word switch via control time slots through a time-multiplexed switch. The control word switch responds by establishing a communication path to the destination processor via the time-multiplexed switch and then transmitting a status signal to the orginating processor indicating that the path has been established. In response to the status signal, the originating processor begins transmitting the control message control words which comprise a control message. Advantageously, the control word switch does not store entire control messages before conveying them to destination processors.
