Abstract: Hydrolysis products of 1-(2-hydroxyalkyl)-2-alkyl- or alkenyl imidazolines and borated adducts of hydrolyzed 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-2-alkylimidazolines are highly effective friction reducing or friction modifying additives when incorporated into lubricating compositions.

Abstract: A process wherein a sulfur halide and an olefin reacted in the presence of catalytic amounts of iodine provides an increased yield of an intermediate adduct with high olefin to sulfur halide ratio; said adduct is thereafter sulfurized with a metal sulfide to provide increased yield of a sulfurized olefin and, when a minor amount of sulfur halide is added to the adduct prior sulfurizing, a substantially increased yield of sulfurized olefin highly useful as a lubricant additive having improved copper corrosion properties is provided.

Abstract: Novel copper thiobis(alkylphenol-phenolate) complexes are effective antioxidant additives for various organic media such as oils of lubricating viscosity and plastics. Additionally these novel copper organo-sulfur compounds are highly useful as energy quenchers and antisludging agents in a variety of organic substrates.

Abstract: Compositions having highly effective antioxidant characteristics are provided comprising organic media, normally susceptible to oxidation, such as oils of lubricating viscosity, containing a minor amount sufficient to impart antioxidant properties thereto of the reaction product of a polysulfide and a hydrocarbylmagnesium halide or a Grignard reagent.

Abstract: Mixed transition metal-alkali metal derivatives of thiobis (alkylphenols) and thiobis (alkylphenol-phenolates) are novel compounds which have utility as oxidation stabilizers for various organic media, e.g., lubricant compositions.

Abstract: Nickel thiobis(alkylphenolates), e.g., nickel 2,2'-thiobis-(4-t-octylphenolate), complexed with hydroxy materials such as alcohols and phenols are novel compounds which impart antioxidant properties to various organic media such as lubricants, hydrocarbon fuels and plastics when incorporated therein. Synergistic or improved antioxidant compositions are provided when the hydroxy complexes are admixed with known antioxidants such as aryl amines and/or hindered phenols.
