    Abstract: A toilet seat hinge, having a threaded bolt for insertion through the bolt hole of the porcelain bowl, is provided with a nut of resilient plastic material having a conical nose the forward diameter of which is smaller than the diameter of the bolt hole of the bowl so that the forward portion of the conical nose may enter the bolt hole until its sloping wall engages the lower edge of the bolt hole.

    Abstract: A composite hinge for a toilet seat comprises three leaves, namely, a bowl leaf, a seat leaf and a lid leaf. The three leaves are assembled into a unit by snap fitting the individual pieces together in interlocking manner. The assembled hinge is then adapted to be secured to the underside of the lid and to the underside of the seat ring by snap fitting the respective leaves into expandible holes in the seat ring and lid. The seat ring and lid are provided with studs with enlarged frusto-conical heads which are adapted to pass through the expandible holes which, after passage, contract to capture the studs.

    Abstract: A composite hinge is provided for the seat and the lid of a cushioned toilet seat. The hinge has three arms or leaves, (1) a bowl leaf adapted to be secured as by bolt to the rear of the porcelain bowl, (2) a forwardly extending arm or seat leaf adapted to be secured to the underside of the seat at the rearward end thereof, and (3) a second forwardly extending arm or lid leaf adapted to be secured to the underside of the lid at the rearward end thereof. The pivot point of the lid leaf is adjustable automatically relative to the seat leaf, thereby to accomodate the lid to cushioned toilet seats having different cushion thicknesses. The seat leaf is adjustable automatically in the vertical direction to accommodate the seat to bumpers of different thickness. The composite hinge is so designed that there is no stress on the hinge pins.

    Abstract: A cushioned toilet seat, and a method for its manufacture, are disclosed, wherein the cushion material is itself formed and shaped during the process of manufacture. The cushion material comprises polyurethane foam which is formed from a reaction mixture placed within a vacuum-forming mold which is used to shape the seat. The seat is supported by a stiff annular member, and is completely enclosed by suitable soft plastic, which plastic is heat-sealed for sturdy construction. No holes need be made in the seat during the manufacturing process.

    Abstract: A cushioned toilet seat is made by first forming a sealed air-and-water tight annular inner tube having a configuration corresponding to that of the end product, then vacuum forming an annular recess or cavity in a first sheet of a cover material, then placing the previously formed sealed inner tube into the annular cavity, then placing a rigid annular member into the cavity on top of the inner tube, then placing a flat sheet of cover material over the cavity, and sealing it closed. Variations are disclosed in one of which the inner tube is filled or partially filled with a polyurethane foam produced by placing a quantity of expandable foamable polyurethane resin reaction mixture in the inner tube before sealing and then sealing the inner tube closed before the foam is fully expanded. In another embodiment, the inner tube is filled or partially filled with water.

    Abstract: A toilet seat hinge is provided, which permits the attachment of a toilet seat to toilet bowls having substantial variations in spacing between the holes into which the toilet seat is bolted. The hinge comprises a threaded bar around which a pair of collars are attached. Rotation of the threaded bar causes the collars to move along the length of the bar. Fastening means are attached to each of the collars, and permit the attachment of the toilet seat to toilet bowls having widely differing hole configurations. A conventional mounting means for a toilet seat cover is attached to the bar, but is not directly attached to the toilet bowl.

    Abstract: A cushioned toilet seat has a lightweight yet strong, relatively thin, annular base member of molded plastic having inner and outer narrow annular vertical flanges and narrow vertical reinforcing ribs forming wide channels therebetween. Supported on the annular base is a foamed plastic cushion, preferably polyurethane, which is plano-convex in cross section. The base and cushion are encased in a tight wrinkle-free plastic film, preferably vinyl, which consists of two pieces of film fused together. Vents are provided through the base to provide communication between the foamed cushion and the atmosphere to allow air to escape from the cushion as it is compressed and to allow air to return to the cushion to accelerate the return of the cushion to its fully expanded condition.
