  • Patent number: 9628181
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed that generally pertain to provisioning an optical network unit (ONU) by an optical line terminal (OLT) of a passive optical network (PON). An exemplary provisioning system includes a wireless reader incorporated into the ONU and a transponder unit attached to a fiber optic cable coupled to the ONU. The transponder unit includes a storage element in which is stored provisioning information, such a registration ID associated with the ONU. The wireless reader automatically obtains the provisioning information from the transponder when the fiber optic cable is coupled to the ONU and transmits the provisioning information to the OLT via the fiber optic cable as a part of a discovery procedure. The transmission of the provisioning information in this manner eliminates the need for a service technician to visit a customer premise and manually provide the provisioning information via a POTS port of the ONU.

  • Publication number: 20050253735
Abstract: The “Portable Traffic Light” is a standard light that include a housing for securing the units to support three separate bulb housings; separating the red, yellow, and green signal components, with electrical power to each unit that allow the signals to operate. Each electrical connection is programmed to allow each color unit to change in sequence; red, yellow, green—green, yellow and red. The uniqueness of the portable unit allows the light to be removed or placed at locations when needed due to outages, thus allowing very low down-time; thereby greatly reducing accidents and confusion as to the right of way. The total unit is light weight (10 to 12 pounds) and is transported by police, fire and emergency personnel. The battery pack, equipped with computer chip and connectors to the unit provide the power to operate the system. A hook atop the unit allows it to be moved and placed where needed when outages occur.

  • Publication number: 20050152506
Abstract: A system for correlating a subscriber unit to a physical port in a point to multipoint wire line network is disclosed. An installer is prompted to manually input a location code associated with the subscriber. The location code in the subscriber unit is received, and is transmitted via the network to a central repository. The location code is stored in the central repository toward associating the location code with the physical port.

  • Publication number: 20050018681
Abstract: Assignment of network addresses, e.g., IP addresses, to network nodes in a passive optical network (PON) may involve assignment of IP addresses within a common subnet scope to network nodes coupled to different optical fiber links and different interface modules in the PON. In this manner, excessive waste of IP addresses can be avoided. Instead of assigning an entire subnet scope of addresses to the nodes coupled to a single optical fiber link, a common subnet can be allocated across a PON having multiple, independent interfaces, increasing the number of subnet IP addresses that are actually used. Accordingly, the IP address space within a subnet scope can be distributed more efficiently. In addition to conserving IP addresses, the number of subnets allocated by ISPs can be reduced, along with the significant expense incurred by ISPs in reserving and maintaining multiple class C subnets.

  • Patent number: 6349573
Abstract: A vehicle anti-theft device includes a frame for securing over a vehicle door. The frame includes one or more support legs each having an upper arm slidably mounted thereon for securing between the top of the vehicle window frame and the vehicle roof. The support leg includes a lower arm for attaching to a vehicle jack rail or similar plate mounted beneath the vehicle. A locking means secures the upper arm at a select position relative to the support leg to tightly fasten the frame about the vehicle door thereby preventing an unauthorized user from opening the door.

  • Patent number: 5193121
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for processing the predetermined number fields containing the handwritten numeric entries. The numeric entries are subjected to character recognition analysis, and a confidence level is associated with each such numeric field reflecting the degree of confidence with which the apparatus has recognized the numeric dollar amounts. The transaction is automatically balanced from the data in the system by computing a combined value of the recognized dollar amounts making up a transaction and comparing the combined value with the transaction total. This computation and comparison is performed automatically, without the prior intervention or assistance of a human operator to review, verify, correct or otherwise modify the dollar amounts recognized by the system.

  • Patent number: 5187586
Abstract: A television viewing device for simulating the environment of a motion picture theater comprising in combination a viewing screen having an opening formed therein sized to expose the television tube. A pair of glasses like frames is used with the viewing screen. These frames having light blocking shields for preventing ambient light in the room in a home where a television set is situated from entering the eyes of the viewer through the top, bottom and sides of the frame. A light blocking shield is mounted in front of the frame in place of the glasses. This shield is provided with a narrow slit which can be varied in size, through which light from the viewing screen and television tube can be viewed. The surface of the viewing screen facing the viewer painted black so the only light visible to the viewer comes from the viewing screen, whereby the environment of a motion picture theater can be simulated in the home.
