  • Patent number: 6381549
Abstract: An ultrasonic flowmeter using ultrasonic pulses transmitted within a pipe containing flowing fluid determines values, including flow rate or fluid velocity of the flowing fluid. The ultrasonic flowmeter transmits trains of ultrasonic pulses having velocity components either in the upstream or downstream direction. The ultrasonic flowmeter includes the transducer placed downstream external to the pipe and a transducer placed upstream external to the pipe. Time measurements are made to determine a time, TU, required for a pulse train to travel from the downstream transducer to the upstream transducer and the time, TD, required for a pulse train to travel from the upstream transducer to the downstream transducer. The ultrasonic flowmeter is configured to have consistent triggering of the pulses of the pulse train to reduce error. Also, the electronics are simplified to allow for lower timing resolution requirements.

The ultrasonic flowmeter transmits trains of ultrasonic pulses having velocity components either in the upstream or downstream direction. The ultrasonic flowmeter includes the transducer placed downstream external to the pipe and a transducer placed upstream external to the pipe. Time measurements are made to determine a time, T.sub.U, required for a pulse train to travel from the downstream transducer to the upstream transducer and the time, T.sub.D, required for a pulse train to travel from the upstream transducer to the downstream transducer. The ultrasonic flowmeter is configured to have consistent triggering of the pulses of the pulse train to reduce error. Also, the electronics are simplified to allow for lower timing resolution requirements. Once T.sub.U and T.sub.

  • Patent number: 5317620
Abstract: A battery-powered infrared sensor security system capable of operating on a single set of batteries for a minimum of one year. The system is connected to a telephone line and employs a bidirectional dual-tone multiple frequency (DTMF) tone generator/receiver to allow communication to and from a remote location. The system status may be checked from the remote location and certain system parameters may be varied from the remote location. The system uses a Fresnel lens arrangement and a pair of infrared sensors to provide a substantially uniform field of coverage of 180.degree.. The system also uses real time digital analysis of the output signals from the infrared sensors. The digital analysis uses time sequence analysis of the output signals, performs variance measurements between the current measurement of the infrared sensor signals and the stored time sequence, coherence measurements between the two sensors, and can compare measured amplitude spectra to predefined signature spectra entered by the user.

  • Patent number: 4864903
Abstract: Apparatus and a method are presented for determining the torque load applied to a fastening element by a fluid powered wrench, and displaying a digital readout of the torque. The operating pressure of the wrench, after compensation for the temperature of the pressure transducer, is converted to a torque measurement by a programmed microprocessor and the torque value is displayed on a digital readout. The system is useable with and adjusts for wrenches of several sizes by an input selector switch connected to the microprocessor. Apparatus and method are also presented for automatic cycling of a ratcheting hydraulic powered wrench and automatic termination of the tightening process when a predetermined torque has been delivered to the fastening element.
