    Abstract: An inclined plate type flowmeter measures the horizontal reaction resulting from solids striking the plate by using strain gauges to detect deflection of a beam supporting the plate. The difference of the outputs of two such flowmeters at the top and bottom of a vertical section of conduit carrying air entrained solids provides an output proportional to the flow rate of the solids.
