  • Patent number: 7961789
Abstract: The video encoder in accordance with the present invention divides input image signal into macro blocks, estimates motion vectors of each macro block and finally encodes the input image signal. The encoder determines the number of macro blocks adjacent to a current macro block. If the number of adjacent macro blocks is equal to or more than two, the encoder calculates a motion vector of the adjacent macro blocks and selects a macro block that has the largest motion vector. Then it defines a least search area that the current adaptive motion vector can have, and compares the least search area with the motion vector of the largest adjacent macro block, and finally determines the largest value as the search area of the adaptive motion vector. Next, the encoder compares the search area of the adaptive motion vector with the search area of the user-defined motion adaptive vector to thereby determine the least value as the search area of the final adaptive motion vector.

  • Patent number: 7613241
Abstract: In one embodiment, a pixel in a block of the image is filtered according to a filtering methodology. The filtering methodology includes determining a filtering strength value. This determining step determines a first filter strength value if the block has non-zero transform coefficient information and determines a second filter strength value if a motion vector difference between a motion vector of the first block and a motion vector of an adjacent second block is greater than or equal to one. The first filter strength value is greater than the second filter strength value.

  • Publication number: 20080117990
Abstract: In one embodiment, four horizontal successive pixels are first filtered by a decoder in a digital video appliance based on a determined horizontal filtering coefficient. Two pixels of the four horizontal successive pixels are in a first block and two pixels of the four horizontal successive pixels are in a second block. Then four vertical successive pixels are filtered by the decoder based on a determined vertical filtering coefficient. Two pixels of the four vertical successive pixels are in the first block and two pixels of the four vertical successive pixels are in a third block.

  • Publication number: 20080117989
Abstract: One embodiment of the method includes obtaining a coded block pattern of first and second blocks. The coded block pattern is one of a plurality of coded block patterns, the plurality of coded block patterns includes an intra-coded block, and the second block is adjacent to the first block. Whether the first block has non-zero transform coefficient information is determined if the obtained coded block pattern of the first block is not the intra-coded block. A motion vector difference between a motion vector for the first block and a motion vector for the second block is obtained. A non-zero filter strength value is determined based on the obtained coded block pattern of the first and second block, the determination of whether the first block has non-zero transform coefficient information, and the obtained motion vector difference. The blocking phenomenon is removed according to the filter strength.

  • Patent number: 7272186
Abstract: Disclosed is a loop filtering method in a video coder enabling to provide an easy real-time processing by reducing a calculation quantity of a video coder in realizing a H.26L standard system and increase a video quality by removing a blocking and a ringing phenomenon of a compression moving picture in accordance with a coded block pattern, a quantization step size, and a motion vector size. The present invention includes the steps of determining a strength of a block to be processed in accordance with a coded pattern and a quantization step size of a first macro block(block1, block2) constituted by 4×4 block unit, carrying out a first loop filtering on the first macro block(block1, blockk2) in accordance with the determined strength, and carrying out a second loop filtering on a block located at a boundary region of a second macro block constituted by 16×16 block unit so as to remove a blocking existing at the boundary region of the second macro block.

  • Patent number: 6859558
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for eliminating a blocking effect in a compressed video signal signal. The method of the invention includes: the encoding step of eliminating a blocking effect by compensating the motion of a signal compressed in block unit to be transmitted; the decoding step of restoring the motion compensated video signal to the original video signal by reducing the prediction residual between the motion compensated video signal and the original video signal and the blocking effect; and the post-filtering step of performing post-filtering in a blocking elimination filter in order to eliminate a blocking effect and ring effect remained in the compensated signal. The equation for obtaining the original pixel is made simple by eliminating the remaining blocking effect and ring effect using a loop/post filter.
