  • Patent number: 5242295
Abstract: A combustion method for the simultaneous control of PICs and NO.sub.x wherein the combustion is carried out in two combustion zones. High velocity oxidant is injected into the second combustion zone to aspirate exhaust from the first combustion zone prior to combustion within the second combustion zone. The first combustion zone is preferably operated under pyrolytic conditions.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 3, 1992
Date of Patent: September 7, 1993
    Assignee: Praxair Technology, Inc.
    Inventor: Min-Da Ho

  • Patent number: 5186617
Abstract: A combustion method employing fuel-rich combustion with an upstream recirculation zone followed by a downstream plug flow zone enabling rapid heating and processing without excessive NO.sub.x generation or particulate emissions.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 6, 1991
Date of Patent: February 16, 1993
    Assignee: Praxair Technology, Inc.

  • Patent number: 5176086
Abstract: A method for operating an incinerator wherein fuel is provided into the incinerator separate from combustible waste and upon an increase in oxygen demand, initially refraining from proportionately increasing the oxygen provided into the incinerator and responding by decreasing the flow of fuel so as to control the generation of PICs without substantially raising the incinerator temperature. The oxygen flow is increased when the fuel flowrate has been reduced to a predetermined minimum should this occur.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 16, 1992
Date of Patent: January 5, 1993
    Assignee: Praxair Technology, Inc.

  • Patent number: 5102330
Abstract: A rotary kiln system wherein oxidant injection means are positioned at each stationary end and inject oxidant toward each other creating gas recirculation within the rotary kiln for improved mixing, combustion efficiency and temperature uniformity.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 15, 1991
Date of Patent: April 7, 1992
Assignee: Union Carbide Industrial Gases Technology Corporation
    Inventor: Min-Da Ho
  • Patent number: 5000102
Abstract: A method for combusting wet waste wherein heat released by the combustion of combustibles from dry waste is recirculated by operation of high velocity oxidant in order to dry wet waste.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 21, 1989
Date of Patent: March 19, 1991
Assignee: Union Carbide Industrial Gases Technology Corporation

  • Patent number: 4969814
Abstract: Method and apparatus to carry out combustion with more uniform temperature distribution and with reduced NO.sub.x generation comprising oxidant injection through a nozzle having straight and angled orifices with aspiration into the angled oxidant and downstream consolidation of the oxidant streams.
    Type: Grant

    Assignee: Union Carbide Corporation
Inventors: Min-Da Ho, Paul J. Liszewski
  • Patent number: 4957050
Abstract: A method for carrying out combustion in a combustion zone using oxygen or oxygen-enriched air as the oxidant wherein atomized liquid is provided to the combustion zone separate from oxidant and combustible vapors, causing it to be distributed throughout the combustion zone and then, especially after its vaporization, uniformly provided to the combustion reaction with consequent uniform temperature moderation, and resulting in reduced NO.sub.x generation and reduced refractory damage.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 5, 1989
Date of Patent: September 18, 1990
    Assignee: Union Carbide Corporation
    Inventor: Min-Da Ho
  • Patent number: 4863371
Abstract: A process to combust fuel and oxidant at high efficiency and with low NO.sub.x generation even when the fuel has non-uniform characteristics and the oxidant is pure oxygen, wherein fuel and oxidant are first combusted within a high velocity oxidant-rich jet, fuel is mixed with combustion products in a recirculation zone and the mixture is aspirated into the oxidant-rich jet and combusted in a diffuse secondary flame at the periphery of the oxidant-rich jet.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 3, 1988
Date of Patent: September 5, 1989
    Assignee: Union Carbide Corporation
