  • Patent number: 7620044
Abstract: In an apparatus and method for transferring data bursts in an optical burst switching network, a control module connected between demultiplexers and multiplexers obtains information in control packets of data bursts to sort and confirm service classes of the data bursts according to delay time and blocking rate. A switching unit switches the data bursts to an output port of a corresponding destination node. A first buffer delays data bursts from the control module once by a preset delay time according to output resource availability and sends them to the output port when the data bursts are sensitive to delay time. A second buffer circulates and delays the sorted and confirmed data bursts up to a preset limit according to output resource availability and then sends the data bursts to the output port when the data bursts are insensitive to delay time.

  • Patent number: 7583669
Abstract: The present provides a method of dynamically managing multicast groups and allocating multicast service wavelengths for the highest channel efficiency. According to the present invention, the share indices of wavelengths of all multicast service groups, which employ broadcasting wavelengths and data wavelengths, are periodically ascertained on the basis of IGMP snooping-based technology in a WDM-PON. Based on the ascertainment results, if the channel share index of the group that employs the broadcasting wavelength is smaller than the channel share index of the group that employs the data wavelength, the share index of the wavelength of the multicast group that employs the broadcasting wavelength is maximized by dynamically changing allocation of the wavelength of the multicast group, so that a maximum multicast service can be provided within limited resources.

  • Patent number: 7421203
Abstract: A method for transmitting a packet in a wireless access network based on a wavelength identification code scheme. The method comprises the steps of connecting n number of RNCs (Radio Network Controllers) to one sub-ring where the “n” is a positive integer, and assigning a unique wavelength to each RNC; identifying a packet to be transmitted between the RNCs located within a same sub-ring using the assigned unique wavelength, and transmitting the packet through an SRC (Sub-Ring Controller); connecting m number of SRCs to one main-ring where the “m” is a positive integer, and assigning a unique wavelength to each SRC; and detaching a wavelength identification code from the packet to be transmitted between the RNCs located within different sub-rings, and transmitting the packet having the encapsulated wavelength identification code through an MRC (Main-Ring Controller).

  • Publication number: 20070242691
Abstract: An apparatus and method for transferring optical data in an optical switching system are provided. When optical data input to a node are in contention, the optical data are converted from optical signals to electrical signals and temporarily stored. When an output resource is available, the stored optical data are converted to the available output resource and transmitted to a desired destination node. This overcomes the buffering depth limit that is observed when a conventional optical fiber delay line is used. Accordingly, an optical data loss rate can be reduced such that optical data can be efficiently transferred. Further, non-contending optical data are directly delivered to output resource by the switching unit, thereby reducing the cost of optical/electrical conversion and wavelength conversion and enabling the apparatus to be implemented at low cost.

  • Publication number: 20060153564
Abstract: A method for efficiently allocating a bandwidth at an optical line terminal (OLT) for upstream transmission in an Ethernet passive optical network (EPON) system. An optical network unit (ONU) divides data to be transmitted into at least two groups that include a group with a constant bit rate (CBR) and a group with a variable bit rate (VBR), and requests a required bandwidth for each of the divided groups. The OLT allocates the requested bandwidth to the group with the CBR within a first bandwidth among an allocated bandwidth including the first bandwidth and a second bandwidth. The ONU transmits data using bandwidth allocated to the divided groups by the OLT.

  • Patent number: 7034989
Abstract: Disclosed are an apparatus and method for converting the wavelength of an optical signal using a multi-mode Fabry-Perot laser diode. The apparatus controls polarization of an external pump optical signal to output a TE polarized pump optical signal, and controls polarization of a probe optical signal to output a TM polarized probe optical signal. The apparatus couples the TM polarized probe optical signal and TE polarized pump optical signal irrespective of the polarization of the optical signals. The apparatus finely controls the polarization of the pump optical signal and the polarization of the probe optical signal such that they conform to TE and TM modes of the Fabry-Perot laser diode, respectively.
