  • Patent number: 8071004
Abstract: The present invention relates to closures for mating with containers having a threaded finish. The closures comprise a flange and a skirt downwardly depending therefrom. The skirt includes a deformable element formed of a different material than that of the flange and skirt and disposed on an interior surface. The deformable element inner diameter is smaller than the outer diameter of the container, and accordingly deforms upon mating the closure with the container. The container threads impress threads into the deformable element to form threads on the closure. The deformable element is formed of a suitable material. The closures of the present invention provide for the use of high-speed press-on capping equipment.

  • Patent number: 7004341
Abstract: A composite closure type container assembly that is designed for use with unthreaded containers includes a container having an unthreaded outer surface and an opening that is defined by an upper rim, a sealing disc that is sized and shaped to cover the opening and to seal against the upper rim and a securement member that is removably anchored to the container for securing the sealing disc on the container. In one embodiment, the securement member is removably anchored to the container by using a tight frictional engagement. In a second embodiment, the anchoring is accomplished by shaping the container so as to have a downwardly depending skirt that engages and retains the securement member in position until the container assembly is opened.

  • Patent number: 6702133
Abstract: A retortable all-plastic closure having a generally circular top portion and a generally cylindrical downwardly depending skirt. The top portion has upper and lower surfaces. The lower surface of the top portion forms a circumferentially extending ridge that projects downwardly. The ridge forms a first structural wall. A second structural wall is formed in the top portion adjacent the first wall. A flexible liner made from a thermoplastic elastomer is bonded to the lower surface. The portion of the liner covering the first structural wall forms a downwardly extending liner wall. The portion of the liner covering the second structural wall forms a top liner wall. The diameter of the downwardly extending liner wall is greater than the diameter of the top of the container neck inner wall to which the closure is applied so that the container neck compresses substantially the entirety of the downwardly projecting liner wall.

  • Patent number: 6631832
Abstract: A resealable single-piece push-pull dispensing closure is disclosed that includes a circumferential skirt, a top member circumferentially coupled to the skirt, and a sipper spout. The sipper spout extends upwardly from the top member and has a curved sipper surface that truncates to from a substantially flat landing surface. Plural apertures are disposed in the landing surface, and apertures may be disposed at a periphery of the sipper surface. The curvature of the sipper surface has a constant cross section curvature throughout the width of the sipper surface. A user's lip may rest on the sipper surface while drinking directly therefrom, or the top member may have a concave portion in which a user's lip may rest during drinking.

  • Patent number: 6276543
Abstract: A composite closure for a container has an outer band with a partial toroidal hook that overhangs a crown around the periphery of an insert cover disk. As the closure is tightened on the container, the hook bears downwardly on the crown of the disk and urges the disk against the container rim. The hook has several vents formed on its underside to enable air communication. A lower, inner edge of the hook is spaced apart from the disk to provide communication with the vents from the environment. An annular recess is formed on the underside of the hook, and is in communication with the vents and with a gap formed between an outboard wall of the crown and an inboard sidewall of the hook. A retaining bead is formed on a skirt below the hook to retain the disk. The bead is spaced apart from the disk when the closure is assembly to a container to enable communication from the environment through the vents to the threads.

  • Patent number: 6253939
Abstract: A closure having a tamper-evident band secured to a container neck by a retaining band. The tamper-evident band is attached to the retaining band by a hinge so that the retaining band rotates upward about the hinge when the closure is applied to the neck of a container, causing the inner wall of the retaining band and the inner wall of the tamper-evident band to form a cavity therebetween. A number of rectangular openings are spaced around the circumference of the retaining band. The upper edge of each opening extends beyond the hinge and into the tamper-evident band. A recess in the inner wall of the tamper-evident band is located above each opening so that the lower edge of the recess intersects with the rear wall of the opening. The openings and recesses cooperate to ensure that any liquid that spills or splashes from the container neck into the cavity during capping will drain out.
