  • Patent number: 6982317
Abstract: A gene in humans and mice, designated C21, encodes a family of proteins that play a role in transcriptional regulation. Two isoforms (? and ?) produced by alternative splicing has been identified in humans. A transgenic model was created that shows that over-expression of C21 in mouse hematopoietic cells alters myeloid development and suggests that members of this family are involved in regulating stem cell differentiation. Over-expressing C21 in 3T3 fibroblasts increases their resistance to apoptotic stimuli. The C21 protein forms a complex with a class of molecules that plays a critical role in transcription, the co-repressors of nuclear hormone receptors.

  • Patent number: 6657675
Abstract: Non-standard broadcast television signals are processed and converted for proper reception and display. Extra or missing horizontal lines are processed using modulo or digital phase lock loop-type circuit to change clock output signal proportionately according to a difference determined by comparing a standard video signal value with an actual input signal line count value, such that modified clock output signal serves as a clock input signal for circuit accepting standard video format. Non-standard video signal having improper odd-even field sequencing is also processed and converted.

  • Publication number: 20030162271
Abstract: Disclosed in the present invention is a Zymomonas integrant and derivatives of these integrants that posses the ability to ferment pentose into ethanol. The genetic sequences encoding for the pentose-fermenting enzymes are integrated into the Zymomonas in a two-integration event of homologous recombination and transposition. Each operon includes more than one pentose-reducing enzyme encoding sequence. The integrant in some embodiments includes enzyme sequences encoding xylose isomerase, xylulokinase, transketolase and transketolase. The Zymomonas integrants are highly stable, and retain activity for producing the pentose-fermenting enzyme for between 80 to 160 generations. The integrants are also resistant to acetate inhibition, as the integrants demonstrate efficient ethanol production even in the presence of 8 up to 16 grams acetate per liter media.

  • Patent number: 6571224
Abstract: A fuzzy logic based digital color transition improvement method and apparatus for increasing color sharpness by replacing the slow transition color edges with edges that have steeper rising and falling times. Fuzzy logic used here to decide where the transition happens and how to enhance the signal when transition happens. Based on the results of fuzzy logic inference, through weighting among input digital color signal, its N-pixel delayed signal and 2N-pixel delayed signal, the output signal has steep and smooth color edges without ringing.
