First and second light sources emit respective first and second incident lights towards the skin surface of a user, with the first incident light emitted through the layer. A photodetector detects first and second reflected lights reflected from different skin depths. The sensor device may be used to detect subcutaneous tissue movements. One or more sensor devices and a model generated from sensed data, associated with different muscle states or physical positions of a user may be used to estimate a physical position or movement of a body part of a user.
