  • Patent number: 6636335
Abstract: A wide image scanner which can scan the image of a large scale original using only a regular image sensor is provided. The invention includes a sliding shaft, an image reading device, a number of paper width sensors, a paper edge sensor, and a control module. Whenever the paper edge sensor detects the presence of an end edge of the original, it will send a vertical control signal to the control module to control the rotation direction of the rollers. On the other hand, the paper width sensors detect the width of the original and send the horizontal control signals to the control module. From the horizontal control signals, the control module can determine the number of horizontal displacement positions and control the horizontal displacement each time for the image reading device after the paper edge sensor detects the end edge of the original. The procedure continues until the image reading device has been moved to the final displacement position predetermined by the horizontal control signal.

  • Publication number: 20020165754
Abstract: A mechanism for quality-of-service-controllable real-time scheduling. The mechanism can be implemented by an apparatus including a regulator, an on-line scheduler, and an evaluator. The regulator is used for adjusting the number of tasks inputted into the on-line scheduler. The on-line scheduler is used to select a real-time scheduling method for configuring time intervals for inputted tasks to be executed. The evaluator is used to evaluate a scheduling result of the on-line scheduler for feeding a first set of parameters into the regulator for a coarse adjustment, and feeding a second set of parameters into the on-line scheduler for a fine adjustment. Besides, for the fulfillment of real-time scheduling, three scheduling methods, namely, MOS, MOP, and MOF methods, are provided. In the MOS method, the mandatory portions are executed as soon as possible and the optional portions may be substitutable.

  • Publication number: 20020069140
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for combining audio-video products with an on-line dictionary and a system thereof, wherein the method and the system are applied on the Internet. The present invention is characterized in that, after making an inquiry about a word by a user, the Internet Server will, according to the language level of the user, provide explanations, illustrative sentences of the word and its relating demonstrations chosen from audio-video products stored in a Dynamic Dictionary Database. The demonstrated audio-video fragments, which contain the illustrative sentences, are selected from a part of dialogs of a movie, a fragment of a song, or a portion of an e-book, and the user can decide whether to buy the audio-video product or not after getting a tryout of the demonstration. By such a easy circumstance, learning foreign languages will be more efficient and personal needs will be much met.
